I've been running Pro for a couple of years. When I get complex models...many components, file size over 40 megs...speed is horrible. Obviously it's impossible to navigate around with shadows on or any graphic style active. But even if those are not on, speed is just incredibly slow at some point. Even hitting the File menu causes the wait/spin circle for over five minutes. I've got one of the more powerful machines in the office with a good Nvidia card. If I go over to a lesser machine running Make, the speed is WAY better. Also generating jpegs is WAY better. On my good machine I lose all Styles attributes when generating a jpeg. On the cheap machine with Make, the style are preserved and the jpeg is generated fast!

What is up? Can it be that I have too many extensions installed? Will that slow normal operations this much? I'm not talking about RUNNING extensions all at once...just the fact that they are INSTALLED and I have toolbars for them on my working screen. totally confounded here...any suggestions would help.

I would be very surprised if Make would be faster than Pro. It could be a difference in the preferences (use large textures, anti aliasing, redefine thumbnail on save, etc) or a weak link in the hardware itself. Do u use the same preference settings? Maybe post the complete specs of both machines?

short answer is yes it can...

but mainly the ones with observers will have a marked effect...

if SU reports to them every time the mouse moves or every time the view/layer etc... change, then the time taken is added to process...

the biggest slow down will be ones the check Materials constantly, especially if the mat is big and the observers don't turn off when you change the style settings, i.e. your using a fast style with monochrome, but they still check he material everytime the view moves...

my first question for odd slowdowns is "which renderer?" and the second "do you run 'Layers Panel'?"

failing those, a list of all Plugins helps find potential issues...

BTW: one of v16 behind the scenes improvements is the change how people can use observers [to stop these type of problems]...

              Oh no! Layers Panel?

Could I live without it? What are the things I should be looking for as performance hits because of Layers Panel?

LP is mainly a mac issue, I think...

what are the specs of the other "lesser" machine?

                    hi!

I'm having similar problems, I just got a new computer at work and my files are dragggging on, barely even moving, but on my old computer everything moved smoothly, in fact, the models were created in that computer.

I dont understand what the problem is, it should be moving faster.

Has anybody found the answer to this?

IM wondering why the material panel is always very jaggery when i got more than 6-7 rows of textures. Im on mac using pro2015. When i try to scroll in the pallette its terribly slow and very jaggery

What are the OpenGL settings on the Pro version? Having Use Max Texture Size ticked on kills SU performance on large models.
