Can't save file in Sketchup 8
-
Pretty sure I was able to save files before I loaded SketchUcation download. The reason I'm not sure is because I just built a new computer and reloaded everything to this machine I'm on now. Also using 8 in linux and have been for a couple of years using Wine. Anyway the problem is I can no longer save a file, which really sucks.

So from your post, you seem to suspect "Sketchucation download" as being the cause of your problem. I assume you mean the Sketchucation Plugin Store. I doubt it would be the culprit but I guess I'd start by removing it and see if the behavior changes.
What happens when you try to save a file? Does anything happen? Do you get an error message? Does SketchUp crash? Does magic smoke come out the front of your computer? Surely something happens.
To what location are you trying to save files? Is it a local directory? Is that directory available to save files into?
So much we don't know yet.
Edited to add, I made the assumption you are referring to saving SketchUp files; models. After reading TIG's reply, below, perhaps he's sussed out what you mean instead.

Your report is a little unclear.
Here's my understanding...
Assuming it's not about 'Saving SKP models'
You use SketchUp v8 on Linux/Wine.
You used to be able to "save files" - I take that to mean installing your RBZ Plugins.
You have installed SketchUcation Plugin Toolset, but it cannot process these.Any Error messages ?
Any Ruby Console messages ??You need v8M2 or newer to be able to install RBZ archives.
If you have that you'll see an "Install Archive..." button in the Preferences > Extensions dialog
What is your version ?
The newest is 8.0.16846 [PC].
Note that version 8 is no longer supported.
You may be able to find a suitable installer if you search...Assuming you do have the button and an RBZ downloaded, from say the SketchUcation PluginStore web-site...
There are two installation methods.- Use the Preferences > Extensions button, find it and install it.
- Use the SketchUcation submenu item to 'Install Archive...', find it and install it [this tool also works on ZIP file archives]
If you have that button, then the SketchUcation Plugin dialog will also offer 'AutoInstall'.
This downloads the RBZ from the server and installs it etc without any need for further user input...If you are stuck with an earlier version of SketchUp that cannot install RBZ archives then the SketchUcation PluginStore dialog is useless for AutoInstalling.
However, you can still download them from the PluginStore.
Rename them from xxx.rbz to xxx.zip.
Extract the zip-files contents, keeping the subfolder paths and nested files intact.
mOve everything into the Plugins folder, but note the permissions issue outlined below, which applies in all casesOne issue you might have is that the v8 "Plugins" folder is located within the SketchUp folder within the "Program Files" folder-path tree, and by default that will have limited security permissions to write to etc - even if you an Admin...
On a PC you fix this [as an Admin] by selecting the "Plugins" folder icon, and using the context-menu > Properties > Security > Edit, and give every entry listed FULL read/write permissions, Apply/OK...
Now you/SketchUp/SCF/et-al can add files to that folder unimpeded.
Newer SketchUp versions have the User's Plugins folder in their AppData Roaming path, so the permissions are preset properly...Try these steps and report back...
Perhaps it's time to upgrade to v2015 ?

Sketchup Ver 8.015158
Here's the first error I get when I open sketchup. Meaning as soon as the program starts
and you get to the Susan screen, think that's her name. As soon as I copied this error message Sketchup crashed. Not able to open any menu or exit the program, have to kill it with the kill command. I uninstalled SketchUcation Plugins and no longer get that error but I do get a new one:Error Loading File BGSketchup_Bill_of_material.rb
undefined local variable or methodI may just uninstall sketchup and see If I can find the ver you suggested.I will be Dual Booting so once I install Windblows I will probably install the newest version of Sketchup. But I know wine does not support the newest version. Wish Sketchup was ported directly to linux.
-
Have you got BG's Lib installed too ?
This might be causing that error ?Of course trying to use SketchUp with Plugins on an unsupported OS is likely to be a rocky road
-
You are right about trying to use it on Linux. I will be loading a Win Os within the next few days. Sketchup will probably be the only reason I install Windows. For now I will try to uninstall it on linux and reinstall later. BTW is that a Tasmanian Tiger???
Thanks for your help!
