Help with wrapping around object

Hi guys,
Hope you can help me out on something. I have an object, block beneath and hollow oval shape on top of it. I want to make something( a strip that will change in its thickness, at some places it will be thin and at some places it will be thicker) and wrap the object all around. Almost like a knot in a way. Do you guys know how i can achieve this. I find it very hard working with curves around that hollow glassed oval on top and then making it bend nicely at the sides, coming around etc.
I actually don't know how i can draw on top of that oval shape, then around and make it bend around the rectangle in a curve etc etc. Cause when i have the shape i want to push pull it (fredo6jointpushpull) to give it thickness. Or do you think i have to use the follow me (and keep) tool or something like that. Really don't know.
I have tried to draw it to explain a little bit what i am after in the attachment. All the help is needed.

You should draw that shape on a horizontal plane, then push it down and intersect it with the dome.
You can do the same for the walls. Then group the intersections and play further rounding the corners and giving it thickness . -

Thanks for your reply. But what do you mean with 'draw it on a horizontal plane and then push it down"? Because that knot shape is actually 'hugging' the dome shape but it is not hugging the blocked shape. It is coming from the dome in a curve and bending around the block.
I have attached the file is it maybe possible to show what you mean?

Something like this. You draw the top shapes,then the sides. In a way that look like they are connected of course.

Thanks again, but this means that it will subtract it from the dome. I do not want to substract it. I want to make a new shape wrapping all around the rectangle and dome in a "knot" kindaway. It is difficult to explain but it is something like the picture attached. But then wrapping it around the rectangle and dome. Actually laying (in contact with) just above the dome but when coming down from the sides of the rectangle, not touching the rectangle, but coming in a curve following the curves of the dome and then bending around it.

You don't need to subtract it from the dome, you can simply make a copy of your shapes and work with them then move the resulted geometry over your actual building.

I like Elisei idea to give you the form the shape follows on the dome but then you must continue with giving it thickness and extending beyond the dome, which is a "Hands-on" modeling job, which you may have to build bit by bit. You could continue the ribbons, making paths (curves) defining the "edges" of the ribbon and Extrude Tools to fill in a shape between those curves.
