Can't get rid of strange orange line
-
I've had this problem several times - a strange orange line appears in my model.
It has no physical properties, can't click on it, can't delete it, it's just....there.
And I'd really like for it to not be there
I'll attach the skp if you want to check it out

Isn't that the Solar North line.

Indeed it is. You can set it so it doesn't show.
And by the way, if that's your template file, you might want to get rid of the hidden line that is a little over 555 feet from the origin.

No, it's not a template file, I just deleted the model to upload the skp here and apparently missed that hidden line.

You should have a solar north toolbar, I think I remember you asking about it a while back because you need it to get your shadows right or something.
The first button on the toolbar turns the orange line on and off.

The first button on the toolbar turns the orange line on and off.Yeah, I vaguely remember something about that, but I cannot find the toolbar anywhere to turn it off. I've checked Preferences/extensions, shortcuts, view toolbars, can't find that sucker anywhere. Any suggestions?
-
Weird, it's in my toolbars as any other.
Perhaps if you go to the extension warehouse and install/reinstall it you'll be able to turn it off. -
Could it be called Set North, or could that plugin also cause this line?
-
That certainly sounds like it.
Looks like you have this one.

Look for it under the View menu. -
Before I do that, I have a question -
Since I don't use the toolbar/plugin/extension whatever, how come that dang line sometimes appears?
-
Well, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, still can't find it anywhere. Guess I'll just hold off until I do a fresh install of Win7, going with an SSD this time. Probably sometime next week. Hopefully that will take care of it.
-
If you don't use it, just disable or remove it and it should stop happening.

When I said "Since I don't use the toolbar/plugin/extension whatever, how come that dang line sometimes appears?", I meant that because I could not find the Solar North plugin anywhere on my computer, I obviously was not using it. so how come I still get the orange line?
Anyhow, got got everything reinstalled on my SSD, and lo and behold, the orange line was still there. Finally found where to download the Solar North extension, and after installing it I was finally able to use the toolbar you mentioned that gave me the option of turning off the POS line.
Seems silly to install a plugin that I have no intention of using except to turn off one of it's features, and since I never had the plugin installed before I would really like to know how that feature got turned on in the first place.
But hey, it's four in the morning, I'm tired and grumpy and so damned sick of lake-effect-snow that I could scream, so please pardon my crappy (well, crappier than normal) attitude.
I do appreciate all the help and advice.
I think it's Bedtime for Bonzo

A couple of posts back you mentioned Set North, and I said that sounded like the culprit and that was the one I meant for you to remove from your plugins.
Hope the snow gets better, I'm suffering the other way around, the last couple of decades I have avoided my home summer but not this year, it's too bloody hot. -

Even if you never had 'Solar North' installed on your computer, you could stiil be stuck with that orange line in your model. That is when downloading a model with the line activated (and maybe rotated to the new solar north). It may sound silly but yes, that's the way it happens.
The way to get rid of it is to have someone re-upload the same model without orange solar north for you to download, or to install the plugin yourself.p.s. I found this out myself some 6 years ago, not knowing that there was the possibility to set/adjust north. I had just begun with SketchUp. Someone "gave" me a model to work on.
