SketchUcation 3D Viewer (formerly the '[ignore]' thread)
-
So here's is a test where the exported .skp has 6 scenes.
We had a discussion about how to handle scenes and their intention for presentation.
What we came up with is that if you created scenes in SU these become viewpoints in the 3D viewer. This is so the end user (the person you want to 'tour' your model) won't end up disorientated.

It is still a WIP in progress but you can see above that the scenes in SU became 'look-around' points in the viewer. No orbiting, panning etc...
Anyone following can comment on this as we would love to hear your thoughts.
NOTE: Bear in mind that the camera is behaving erratic but we're dialling it in as we deal with a multitude of 'things'.
I got your PM and will sort you out soon.

Sorry I forgot to add that....
-
Oh! We can comment? I thought we were supposed to [ignore]...
I love the viewpoint concept, but I think it's feeling as awkward as the look around tool in sketchup. I feel the controls are reversed... It's the opposite way they do in games, and games are what people are used to play with...
You didn't follow sketchup scenes behaviour, so why would you follow lookaround tool behaviour?
EDIT: What about sections? Would anyone need them? Scenes+Sections and text is what I want. I would think on replacing all my construction docs for a notepad with online content stored in sketchucation cloud if I had that!!!
-
The only aspect of SU we follow is the .skp format.
-
Then follow me! Would you mind changing the look around?
-
-
Cool!
-
It is now JQL'd
-
LOL it pays up being a pain in the butt!
-
I use the look around a lot for architectural interiors, will there still be a look around tool?
-
The purpose, currently, is that you'll use SU the setup the presentation. So position the camera in a place where you want the 'client' to 'look' from.
Does the model not do this for you?

Two observations on latest posts:
-
On the neat yellow bird, when it finished loading it lost all of it's color.
-
I love the scene capability. I can see some real use for this feature.
-
However, I know you are still developing, I would like to see a transition from one scene to the other like happens in SU.
-
Would be neat if there was an option to somehow include the scene name.
-
Agree that it would be nice to be able to add text as well.
-
While you are at it, how about the ability to click on something in one scene (like a hyperlink) to take you to another scene.
This viewer keeps getting more exciting

Camera path animations are a big undertaking.
Add scene name is planned
Leader text is already supported. Dimensions not yet. But we'll be doing our own dimensioning system as the one in SU is not suited to the viewer.
Hotspots are planned.
Thanks for the feedback.

Some interesting results....
- I liked being able to go inside the model and do some looking around
- Once inside the model, the lighting looked good. It will be interesting to see where you can take this feature1. Had some very inconsistent results when clicking on the scenes - did not always get the same results
- At times there was a lot of clipping
- At times the model would not orbit correctly (I assume that was because of the axis in different scenes
- Got confused as to how many scenes there really were because at times it would just flip between 2 scenes
-
There are only 2 scenes.
Working on the camera issues this week

I kind of thought there might only be 2 scenes but at times it appeared there were more. Will be watching to see how that goes.
Hope you do not mind me throwing in my 2 cents......
