How do I make my lamp post cast lightrays in the dark?

I have a lamp post with a spot light. The GI skylight is turned off, a spotlight is the only light in the scence. The spotlight lights up the ground, but I would also like to make the light cast some rays.
Is there a simple way to make the spot light cast rays?

maybe create a rectangle light (area light) then make it a component, rotate a 90 degrees. make it invisible. place it near the spot light. hope this helps.

OK, so I should try inserting a rectangle light in the lamp post and using that, removing the spot light? I´ll try it. Thanks!

You mean that the light is ok, but you want to add these kind of effect?
In Vray you can't (not yet). I would suggest to add it in post with photoshop.
