Hi Guys, just a quick one, Im looking into the joining together of two cylindrical forms and I'm in desperate need of some modelling help.

Im looking to divide a cylinder into two along the pink line shown in the picture in the hope that both of these segments would later screw together? Could anyone offer any help with this?

      Thank you in advance

In order to get two surfaces that can screw together, you'll need two helices, not one as in your sketch.

After you've got the first one drawn, select it and copy/rotate it about it's center to make the second one.

In this example I used Draw Helix 1.4 to draw the first helix but doing it by hand is a good learning opportunity. The plugin makes the helix as a group so the two resulting groups will need to be exploded to cut the surface of the cylinder. Remember to make components or groups of the surfaces before you assemble them or they'll get welded together.
