SketchyPhysics 3.5.6 (26 January 2015)
-
I work in the film industry as a set designer and I loved this plugin back when I was still using SU2013. It helped me show how a prop might work and to animate a stoyrboard sequence for a set but I haven't been able to use it since:{...
I also do Product Design on the side and you can understand how indispensable this plugin is for that.
Please, Please update for SU2015 64bit and onward. Most of us in these types of industries rely on Sketchup over Maya, ACad, Rhino, Solidworks etc. because of how quickly we can show a client a 'working' model.

Hi there,
I was wondering if Sketchyphysics would be suitable for measuring the overturning moment of an object? I'm working in a museum and we have done some basic 3d scans of objects which I have imported into SU. I have found a plugin for centre of gravity but would like to know if you could apply ground velocity to an object to see what size earthquake would topple it.
Thanks
Lumens

Hello dna645. I would be more than willing to update SP to SU2015 64bit, but the problem is that I don't have the C++ source, since the libraries have to be compiled under x64 in order to work under 64 bit. I tried contacting Chris Phillips, the author of this plugin, but I haven't got a reply yet. Maybe Chris Phillips want's to publish SP 64bit himself, but he has been pretty inactive since I joined the forums, so I don't know. I'll just wait for his reply.
Hello Lumenous. SketchyPhysics could be used for earthquake purposes, but I'm not sure if the results would be accurate. I mean more data has to be taken into account, like friction between surfaces. However, if friction isn't that vulnerable, here is a demo:sp_earthquake.skp Some adjustments to the slider properties could be made to suit your purpose.
BTW, you don't need a plugin to calc object's center of gravity. Just assign model's shape to Compound2 and the center of gravity will be calculated automatically. To do it, right click desired object(s) and select SketchyPhysics->Shape->Compound2.

Thanks Anton_S
Very good proof of concept. I'll have a go at testing settings and models and let you know how I get on. Generally our earthquakes are fault slippage in a north/south direction so one piston is fine as I can change the orientation of the object depending on how it would be exhibited. The tricky bit is modeling for any uplift during a p wave event. Maybe a single pulse piston in the up-down direction?

Here is an example of earthquake left/right and up/down movement: sp_earthquake.skp You can adjust oscillation speed/length by adjusting slider properties. Do that by opening SP UI, selecting the desired slider joint, and editing properties.

I want to thank Chris for this amazing plugin.
I do have a couple of wishes for a future release.
- Support for 64 bit Sketchup
- Support for GPU number crunching monsters like CUDA.
Thank you again and where do I donate to your cause?
Cheers,

I'm using Sketchup 2015 and don't seem to be able to install this program. Should it work? If not, what similar physics programs are out there?
-
My understanding is that 64 bit SketchUp isn't supported.
-
Presumably an x64 version is on its way, but can anybody provide a date on when?
Think I'll have to revert to a previous 32bit version until they do
-
Is there a timeline for development of a SketchyPhysics version that is compatible with Sketchup 2015 64 bit? Thanks. Tom

Hey guys exsit version for skethcup 2015 please ?

Hello can i ask if is possible to make with this plugin also working twine iam trying and trying but it is still fixed like pipeline.
Thank you !!!

Hi everyone, I am new in SketchyPhysics.
I don`t know if this is the best forum to ask help for my question.
Sorry if not, and please tell me where is the best place. This is my question:
I installed SketchyPhysics in Sketchup 8 (Windows 32 bits).
I follow the tutorials but at the first test I found an error that has me stopped:
I create a box and another copy over that.
Mark "static" to the bottom box.
Put a hinge in one border (left or right) in the middle edge of both boxes.
Joint the hinge with the bottom box.
Group the upper box with the hinge.
And when I click in "play", the upper box fall down rotating from the hinge and fall through the bottom box.
I tried to do a lot of times and always the same result.
Is like that when I assign the "parent" to the hinge to rotate, that parent box become NO solid.
Help please. Thanks. -
Dgimagge, to prevent bodies connected by joints from passing through each other, select the joint, open SketchyPhysics UI, and enable the "ConnectedCollide" checkbox option. By default, this option is disabled.

Anton_S, thank you so much. Thats the key.
I wonder why in any tutorial teach that !!!!Thanks again.

Well,
February 2016, Major SketchUp update (2016) out up and running but still no word on the 64 bit version of this very useful plug-in.
I tried to install it anyway, but obviously not being compatible with a 64 bit version, it gave me a bunch of errors and doesn't load....
If there was a turn around about this I should found it by now..Just hoping a 64 bit version release will be out soon.
Thank you. -
Hi there, can someone please help me answer a very simple question. Is SP compatible with SU 2015 Pro on a Macbook running OSX 10.9.5?
I've expanded the SP zip and dumped the contents into the Plugin folder associated with SU2015. SketchyPhysics is visible in the extensions tab found under File/Preferences etc but nothing relating to SP comes up in the toolbar. I have also tried the same process with my previous versions of sketchup 2014 and 8.
Am I doing something wrong or does SP just not work on Mac?
Thanks in advance
Matt

I've just downloaded the new version of Sketchup Make, installed sketchyphisics and all seems to work, but if i try to edit joint setting nothing happen.
I right click on a joint, select "joint settings" and i expect a widows appear (i used this in an old version) but no window appear and i don't know which is the problem. Is there a way to have a debug of it?
thank you! -

SketchyPhysics is a real-time physics simulation plugin for SketchUp created by Chris Phillips.

SP 3.5, the unofficial release, comes with many bug fixes

SketchyPhysics 3.7.1
SketchyPhysics 3.7.1 Release date: December 23, 2015. Copyright 2009-2016, Chris Phillips
It remains just for 32-bit SketchUp to use.
I'm a bit confused...
V.3.2 was the last one from Chris Phillips, now stopped?
Than a new branch named "3.5.x" was started? By Anton_S ?
Then a NEW branch named "3.7.x" was started? By PituPhysics? Or this is the continuation of 3.5?!?What does "It remains just for 32-bit SketchUp to use" mean? That a 64-bit version exists?
