I know it's basics but still I'm stuck.
I create a geometry in Layer0. Let's say it is a rectangle. Triple click it and make a group. Create new layer called floor and assign this group to layer "floor". When I turn this layer on and off my rectangle appears and disappears respectively.
However if I open this group for editing and click any of its entities: Edges, Face, the Entity Info shows that each of them belong to Layer0. Meanwhile the group as a whole belongs to "floor".

Is that the normal behavior or I should change the Layer of any entity in the group from Layer0 manually?

Welcome to Sketchup, you just discovered how layers work πŸ˜„

No worries, you're experiencing the normal behaviour. Actually, this is how you're supposed to work with layers : Always leave the "raw" geometry on layer0 !

You should take a few minutes to read this and follow what it says.

Also, there is a shortcut for creating a new layer while you are inside the Entity Info window.
You can just type the new layer name inside the Layer: field and press enter to move the selected entity into the new layer without having to create the new layer first.

Just us jiminy and Dave suggested:
A best practice is to draw all your individual entities on Layer 0 and leave them there. Only after you turn individual entities into groups or components you should associate those groups or components with different layers.

When you look at the Layers window the radio button should always be on for the Layer0 and never on for any other layer. Just use the visibility check boxes to enable and disable a particular layer visibility.
