Your models are impressive. Very realistic. My attempts at upholstered furniture always came across as boxy looking.

I'm still trying to grasp if you are making most of the polygons by hand or using soap bubble or something equivalent?

I think what makes a sofa realistic are the fine creases. I see this in your renders but I dont see them in the wires shown. Are you further subdividing and sculpting these fine creases or do you apply some bump or normal map?. Certainly i will not think that you photoshopped it.

And yes, and no. I rarely use Soap Skin. Mostly for seating. This tool is good when the edge of the plane is parallel for axes. Sides and the other surfaces made with the Skinning tool and some places by hand.

You Noticed correctly. I use a mixed technique. In some places, the geometry have wrinkles and crease. For the rendering, I applied bump map

but how do you place the bump map of wrinkles where it should be when we do not have proper UV unwrap?

It would really help my self-esteem if you would post just one sucky model.

Ive been thinking if possible to do model this Poltrona Frau Chair in SU with all the techniques youve shared so far . Well I know, anything is possible, (these images are 3d model sold by turbosquid) but how easy or how hard, or how detailed we can go is a big Q.Poltrona Frau archibald

Yes. I was intrigued. Sketchup not 3DMax. But after inserted some details, the results can be pretty good. This is done through a half hours.

                              This thread is sooo amazing!
I see you have a very good understanding of how the subdivision algorithm of Artisan works!
You must have gone through a tremendous amount of hours into it to get to this level of mastery! 😮

I think I have a good level of modeling in Sketchup+plugins but your skill level is absolutely marvelous! I feel like a padawan again 😆

At this level, for me, it's just pure art. While I must admit I'm not fond of the baroque furniture style, the way you managed to model these chairs and sofas convey perfectly the love and craft skills needed to make them in real life...

Congratulations, admiration and awe are the 3 words that come to my mind... 👍

@Alvis, there are a couple of things about this thread:

                                      • Your work is wonderful 💚 * It is both an inspiration and a depressant* You have inspired some posts that let me know that I am not the only one who drools and wonders if I can ever learn to do things like this.

I am looking at things like this and things in the SubD Examples thread and wondering how and where is the best place to start to learn how to draw things like this. And Yes, being realistic, I do not expect to achieve the craftsmanship you are displaying. I just have trouble wrapping my mind around things like this and trying to figure out where/how to go about learning how to use the SU tool and its plugins for this type of modeling.
