not quite sure what you are going after, here's my best guess: I suggest that you put a sphere light inside your "lampshade" and make a "vray 2sided" material to create a translucent material. If you are adding an emmissive layer in your lampshade material, you will not see the sphere shape, you will just get the flat disks like you see in your render. You might also want to make a wire frame inside your lamp so it looks more realistic. Look at some reference images and see how they look in photos.

hi andybot
that I have already tried in my picture.
I have used a sphere light and also tried with the light intensity.
somewhere the worm's inside. did you hire a pattern file or material?
-
do you have an emmissive layer in your material? I would try without that first, and adjust the sphere light intensity and the 2sided material translucency. You can add a textured transparency layer to your 2sided base material.

so, here is my lantern. I do not know if I did it right.
However, I get the lovely "lantern" effect does not

It's pretty simple. Just make sure you are using the V-Ray 2 sided material and not the SketchUp 2 sided, use a sphere light inside the lamp. Like Andy said, dont put an emissive layer on your shade material. Theres no need for it.

The material needs to be applied to both faces.

I would suggest to look at the real world condition to see how to make this more realistic.

Also, if you go to the Chaos site and go to the material downloads section, under the Other category, there is a material called Old Shade, that might be a good starting point. You really want to see some texture through the paper.

thank you very much valero and andybot for the fast feedbacks and help.
