      What system (mac/windows) ? what version ?

      Sorry, you are perfectly right.
I am working on a windows xp machine, pentium 4, 2gb.
I weep daily for its lack of power, but alas, my place of work will not let me bring my own laptop.

Done as advised? What did you do : Uninstalled plugins, other file installed, or both?
RichSection only creats sectionfaces for groups that produce a closed section.

Did you activate the extension in 'preferences' ?
Is there a menu in plugins/RichSection?
Open the ruby panel : what is printed in the ruby-panel?

          ok (following on mac issue)
1./ as adviced I replaced only the file you forwarded "PiGa_RichSection.rb"
2./ then no more loading error on startup
3./ than RichSection is in the palet and plugins menu
4./ than when clicking or choosing from menu - "create richsection" in rubby panel there is:
          "Error: #<TypeError: can't convert nil into String>
          (eval):917:in +' (eval):917:in l_ctrl'
          (eval):1466:in createRichSectionTool' (eval):4353:in require'
          (eval):917:in `call'
          (eval):917"

How did you install. I know there are problems with Mac, but it should work with windows.
The best way is to use de Sketchucation Plugin manager, Witch can install, disable and uninstall plugins.

If you didn't used the Sketchucation plugin manager : delete the file PiGa_RichSection.rb in the Sketchup/plugins directory (optional but not necessary the directory with the same name).

MAC ore Windows, apparently, ther is a compatibility problem with MAC
                  If Windows :
Did you creates the section with the most left icon ?
Open the ruby panel. Are ther any error messages ?
If your PC is slow, wait for the creation of the views (do not use the mousebuttons until done).

Parameters for "cut color the same as the object" :

                      • Set 'RichSection material name' to "prefix+materialname, default"
                      • Set 'RichSection materials, prefix' to "" (empty)

                      neat.
i tried a quick one in indigo with glass, metal, and wood..

                      [attachment=0:1ylc6qf1]<!-- ia0 -->section3.jpg<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:1ylc6qf1]

i didn't let it render as long as it would need but it shows that it would work in an actual render..

glass- one solid sphere (rendered as a solid piece of glass)
metal- sphere inside a sphere (rendered as if it were a bowl)
wood- i resized the texture on the facing side.. the cut shows the original size.. probably not good to use this technique on renders requiring high quality texturing/mapping (as in- that block would require end grain etc.)

Good news for Thea users, Tomasz has been made aware of this and will support this in an upcoming release.

Sketchup.version_number doesn't work that well with the recent version number scheme of SketchUp. It's better to parse Sketchup.version.

Thanks x 1000, i will correct that this evening, to get it working for Mac.
But it's not the only conflict in my code.
My Mac experience is quite limited, actually zero.
Maybee we must start a Post listing all restrictions and problems in relation to Mac, Windows, ....?

                                  pgarmyn -

I was using RichSection all week, and then it suddenly stopped working. I think I MAY have updated it recently, though.

By stop working, I mean it totally stopped working, as others have described above: I couldn't Add a RichSection, Edit Parameters, Edit Settings, nothing...

In any case, I discovered what was wrong, by looking at the Ruby Console when running the plugging.

It seems that your PlugIn suddenly needs Full Read/Write permissions to the C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2013\Materials folder.

I did not have this, and I had to navigate to this folder in Windows Explorer, and give myself Full Read/Write Permissions to the Materials folder. Much the same way I had to give myself Full Read/Write Permissions to the Plugins Folder after I installed SU2013, so the Sketchucation Store could install PlugIns.

Once I gave myself Full Read/Write Permissions to the SketchUp 2013/Materials folder, RichSection started working again!

It's a fantastic PlugIn, with an amazing array of options, and a huge time-saver.

If you changed something in the last update, you might want to look at it closer.

Hope this helps you, and anyone else who updated and stopped being able to run RichSection.

                                  Thanks.
                                  Dave.

After getting RichSection working again (SEE ABOVE POST), I now only have the #Default Material available to use.

I do NOThave any of the other great section hatch materials that you provide with the PlugIn.

I'm guessing the new path to the ...SketchUp 2013\Materials folder has something to do with this.

Hopefully this helps you troubleshoot the issues.

                                    Thanks.

After getting RichSection working again (SEE ABOVE POST), I now only have the #Default Material available to use ….

At creation of the first RichSection, the code will load the default Library in your drawing, wich is by default (if not changed in RichSection/Settings) : materials/RichSection/RS_V0/#default.mat.skp, containing only one material : #default,
The other materials (17 files with skm extension) are copied to the same directory and can be selected in the Materials Window (/RichSection/RS_V0). The ruby code needs write permissions for these directorys. I will have to put some warning message if this is not the case.

For the previous version there were people complaining they didn't asked for all those materials. If you want to load all materials at first RS creation, then replace the value Settings >> RichSection materials to load... : “materials/RichSection/RS_V0/#default.mat.skp” by “materials/RichSection/RS_V0/RS_V0_14.mat.skp”. Do not misspell, the value isn't changed if path/file don't exist. The materials are only loaded if the default material doesn't exist in your model (Settings >> Proposed default RS material). You can rename the default material in your model to reload the material(s) at the next RichSection creation or update. You can always go back to the default values (Plugins>>RichSection>>Reset Settings)

I understand all that. The problem is that, BEFORE the latest update, you did NOT require Full Read/Write Permissions to the SketchUp 2013\Materials Folder.

With the latest update, you changed that. So now you DO require Full Read/Write access to the SketchUp 2013\Materials folder. And a lot of users do NOT have these Permissions by Default.

This is the reason the PlugIn 'stopped working' for many.

Either you need to go back to the old way it functioned before the update, or very careful explain to people when they are running the PlugIn what Permissions they need to change, to what folder, and how.

                                        Just a suggestion.
                                        Dave.

THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS WITH MAC
                                          MAC USERS, PLEASE WAIT :
IS THERE SOME MAC-VOLUNTEER TO HELP WITH SOME TESTING ❓

I dont have ruby knowlege, but as user testing , I can give a try.
I'm using skp pro version 8 only with a lot of addons so conflict with other plugs is possibul.
However sketchucation store plug alows to do some limted sets if needed.
