Still bugs me that we have to pay big money to upgrade to Vray 2 because the last version was never fixed. I just simply can't afford to upgrade at present. I lost pacientence using previous version.

As buggy as 1.49.01 was, I think we can all say we were able to get some nice renderings and make some money from it. If we expected to get 2.0 for free, you know what we would get? A piece of crap. If we want Chaos to continue to update and improve V-Ray for SketchUp, you gotta pay the guys that work there for their hard work. 2.0 is a far better product than 1.49.01 and worth the cost to upgrade in my opinion. Maybe Santa will bring you a copy if you're a good boy.

I have to agree with Holmes on this one. When you buy a piece of software you expect it to work. And this issue was not a one off problem, several people had it as well. I don't mind the idea of paying for Ver. 2 as it has many new features but to stop supporting a previous version of the software when known bugs still exists is just poor salesmanship. I mean even MS supports and tries to fix earlier versions of its OS rather than just cutting people off.

upgrading from 1.0 to 1.05.29 to 1.49.01 was completely free. 2.0 is a new version with some major new features, new licensing system, and was developed by a different company (it was previously developed by ASGvis, which was purchased by Chaos Group just after 1.49.01 was released). At what point do you draw the line and charge for a new version to continue development? SketchUp 8 isn't being patched anymore, 2013 will stop being patched soon, it's how software development goes. So much changed between 1.49.01 and 2.0 (even how we internally organize the code, build it, store it, track changes) that patching 1.49.01 wasn't an option.

Don't get me wrong, I would love for everyone to be able to continue to get free updates of our product as it continues to grow. We want the SketchUp community to use our product to create images that the SketchUp developers never thought could ever come from their product. Business comes at a cost though, and we needed to charge for the changes that were made in the 2.0 release. What did we do with the money?
-We hired (and are hiring) more developers
-We no longer halt V-Ray for SketchUp development so that we can work on V-Ray for Rhino
-We hired an additional in-house artist that is helping us test our product and catch bugs before it goes out in to users hands. We appreciate the community's support, and look forward to making V-Ray for SketchUp even better as we move forward.

Hey hey I never said that i wanted a free upgrade. I totally understand that Vray2 is full of well worth buying features. But I do feel that the upgrade price is very high for people whom have had a pretty rough ride with previous versions. I'm just comparing prices and experiences with other render software such as Thearender.
Yes I was able to make money off rendering with 1.49.01, but also feel I lost money with its instability and god knows how many days/weeks spent researching work rounds. No insult to developers whom we all know work very hard and had their development road map changed when Chaosgroup bought ASGvis. Also the nightmare from what I hear developing a software within Sketchup's limitations.
I will upgrade at some point because a stable Vray is a fantastic tool. I was just voicing my opinion and frustration which i think I'm entitled to after blood sweat and tears with 1.49.01, which i realize isn't gona change a thing cos the price is the price.
Ok.....now time for me to let it go and convince my partner that Vray will be a good investment.

sorry, I get a lump in my throat when I hear any sob stories about 1.49.01. It was a very difficult release, many emotions involved, and sometimes I get a bit defensive.

Sorry Devin
Hate the thought I've made you feel like that. The way I saw it you were not given the chance to bug fix before being pushed into making the new version. I wouldn't complain if i had the money to splash out on Vray2. Id just get on with it. But new house, new kitchen and brothers wedding overseas equals zero money in bank. Hope to upgrade next year. -
We are doing side by side development of VfR and VfS, so by the time you get to purchase the upgrade, you might be looking at some vast improvements over even the 2.0 version currently out there. For example, in the upcoming patch, I was able to speed up proxy creation from taking over an hour to create a proxy that has 10k faces for the preview mesh (which is absurd btw)... down to about 3 minutes... Also it appears we have squashed that nasty empty render bug as well. Hang in there, we'll make the product better while you wait

wow...i feel good that my frustration is shared by other more users as well. i wasted many hours fixing instead of enjoying vray 1.49.01. also Glad to hear that vray 2.0 has no bugs like in 1.49.01. i will install it and use 2.0. hope i will have better experience using it. n thank Devin Kendig for your hardwork.
