I did the lessons for a while. I really liked the system...never did any real programming with it though.

Did all the html and css exercises there...
did some ruby but din't find it helped me when it cam to SketchUp

No but apart from Ruby there is one called API which seems very interesting although I don't think they cover SketchUp API specifically.
One thing to be aware is that if you learn Ruby that doesn't mean you will be able to write SketchUp plugins right away, because you still need to learn the Sketch Up API.
In my opinion the best way to learn this is by modifying an existing plugin and asking question on Developers Forum.

This is an unbelievable resource. It is one of the best "library" and "language" combinations for the beginning programer I have come across.
After making numerous attempts to get into programming I have looked at heaps of stuff. This book is perfect when it comes to, as I said, combining a language and a library. And it is Sketchup too, so far more rewarding than boring university courses teaching C in a CLI environment. Yes, I understand they are fundamental.
