Sketchup make crashes when trying to save a new file
-
Hi All,
Very new to this forum...i have been using sketchup for a while but never had a problem like this....since few days i am not able to save files and it causes sketchup 2013 to crash. tried to save the file in different format but nothing. the only plugin i have installed is the STL one.
I suspect a window 7 automatic update but not sure...
Any suggestions please? I'm using window 7 and as i mentioned i have been using this software on the same computer for a while...
Cheers,
lmcdima.

What file location are you using to save the file? Is it possible the permissions for that folder are set to prevent SketchUp from writing the file?
-
Good morning. thank yo for writing back. unfortunately no matter where you try to save you get the same problem. desktop, different hard disk etc...
-
Try setting SketchUp to always run as admin.
As an admin yourself [if you are not one give yourself the power in Control Panels > Users]...
Find the SketchUp.exe file in the main SketchUp folder in the Plugins Files tree...
Select its icon and right-click > context-menu > Properties > Compatibility...
Tick the check-box near the bottom of the dialog under 'Privilege Level' that says something like 'Run This Programs as Administrator', Apply/OK and restart SketchUp... -
Hi Tig,
Thank you..no luck...i even tried to run with the compatibility mode but no luck...
-
Hi,
I have tried to run as administrator and no luck. I have checked for the permission and no problem there. I also check for compatibility mode and no improvements...
-
Have you tried 'repairing' SketchUp in Control Panel > Programs & Features ?
-
Hi Tig, no luck.....
-
Hi Guys,
I do understand this is not a support forum....but any help is highly appreciated...unfortunately i cannot longer use the software as i cannot save my work..
Please, please, please...help
Thank you in advance
-
Have you tried restoring back to before the win update to see if that is the problem.
-
hi "Box" thank you for the reply. the reason i haven't don it is because cannot be that i'm the only user in the world with this problem. However your suggestion is very welcomed and I will try it tonight. But..before that, anything else i could try ?
Thank you for having put time in answering me.

You say the issue came on suddenly...
Have you done a thorough virus scan ?After Windows updated do you have similar issues with other applications ?
Rolling back to an earlier version of Windows might resolve the issue...Have you tried 'repairing' your SketchUp installation [Control Panels > Programs & Features] ?
Or uninstalling it, then reinstalling it ?? -
Hi Tig,
I will try the rollback windows tonight. And yes i did try to repair it but nothing happened...
-
Hi TIG, the 9/10/2013 windows automatically updated itself with 19 patches. I think rolling back, knowing windows, it is not an option. I would have done for 1 or 2 patches but not for all these ones...i have also reinstall it from scratch and no luck.
-
Hi All,
I rolled back all 19 patches. problem is still there.
-
I assume you have recently done a thorough virus check ??
Try a full uninstall [via Control Panel > Programs and Features] of SketchUp and then restart and then reinstall it.
Try saving a SKP again [to you're your Desktop where your are sure to have FULL read/write permissions].If it still fails to save... recheck for rogue plugins breaking SketchUp.
Open SketchUp and install the latest version of the SketchUcation Plugins Store toolset...
Use the blue button to make a set named 'usual'.
Now select all of the enabled Plugins in the left-hand column [select the first one, hold shift and select the last one] and click the red button to disable them into the right-hand column
Close and restart SketchUp.
Now no plugins should be loading [except SketchUp's files in the Tools folder].
If it still fails to save, then we know it's not a Plugin and you can Apply the 'usual' set to revert to your previous setup...
BUT if it saves successfully then you know that at least one of the disabled plugins is causing problems, you can add some plugins back into the enabled set and retest etc until it breaks again. Narrow down the problem until you find the problem plugin[s]... Leave it/them disabled ! -
