Do You Want Sketchup to Fix your Model?
-
hey. i just want to ask on something i have really been pondering on.
when i use sketchup, after sometime, it asks me whether to fix my models. is it really safe to let sketchup fix my model or does it do a hocus-pocus thing that i do not see that can somehow ruin my model?
my thinking is, if it is really safe to let sketchup fix my model, why does it even have to ask me?
i am not yet versed in scripting so i do not get what sketchup tells me when i click on the "details" after i fix my model.

I would say Yes, and let SketchUp fix the problems.
If you do not, then your model's problems might get worse till it becomes unopenable!
You could always say No, do a Save, then do a manual Model Info > Statistics > Fix...
Many users have SketchUp setup in the Preferences > General to 'auto-check' AND 'auto-fix' problems [you must just have 'auto-check' ticked ?]...
'Problems' are reasonably rare and most are related to badly defined 'geometry' or guides, usually after intensive editing, exploding or some plugin use... -
hmmm... thanks for that, TIG! good to know.

In models with small faces I say PASS , in models I know I have no problems I say Yes, but after that I check the model for visual errors .

with small faces? why? has there been any accounts of geometric deformation caused by the fixing? thanks.

Yep, it triangulates faces sometimes.

It also will delete faces occasionally if they are ill-formed. This happens most often when working with geometry imported from other software from what I've seen.
