      A funny reconstruction of a small apartment in Madrid by Héctor Ruiz-Velázquez in order to be used as a guesthouse for a ceramic producer company.

      Tested for the first time the new Thea's field mapping biased engine and I have to say that I'm pretty impressed by how it solved this quite complex scene.
      Never tried a biased engine before.
      "Interior fine" preset with increased tracing depth (up to 20) just for some materials.

      Apart from some furnitures and accessories, almost everything was modeled by me in Sketchup.

      Ibl + every kind of lights: spots, omni, ies and emitters.
      PS and magic bullet photolooks for the post pro. The images were also reduced.

      Sorry a lot of images, but it was entertaining moving the camera around. 😄

              very good

              but out of curiosity, could you tell us the average time it took to render? (and of course the original resolution and rendering power of your machine)

              i also think Thea 1.2 is amazing... its biased engine is almost as good as unbiased ones, but i find it much slower, in comparison to VRay 2.0
              so that's why i am curious to know your feedback about Theas biased speed

              anyway, the renders are great, thanks for sharing

                It's amazing! What is the original size of the image? How long THEA rendering a single image?
                Hmm ... I never use "Interior fine" preset. It's a long process ...

                    The images were rendered at 1500X1043 px for 5-7 hrs each (depending on the scene) on my old i7 with 6 Gb of RAM.
                    Anyway you have to consider a couple of things:
                    -the scene is quite complex (a lot of geometry, reflective and SSS materials, lighting etc.) and there are also two omni inside the hanging lamps which shine through a frosted glass;
                    -I'm totally new to biased rendering settings, so I've picked the highest preset with no further tweaks. Just made some adjustment on single materials;
                    -the unbiased engines were almost unable to clean the scene in an acceptable time.

                    Yeah, I love wide angle lenses. Here I've used 14 or 20 mm.

                      This is probably some of the best work you've done!! Hats off! Yes camera work is truly excellent. There is something captivating with ceramics.

                              this is the only reason i dont switch to Thea... the unbiased engines are amazing, and now with the 1.2 final gathering, the biased ones are almost equally good

                              but i miss a biased preset where you can give up a little bit on quality, but get a render in 15 to 30 minutes, like you can do in VRay

                              even with "basic" interior preset, with no supersampling, i get 2 to 3 hour render in these kind of complex lightning scenes (my machine is even "older" than yours...)

                              but again, amazing images, you and Thea work very well together

                                But I shudder to think what would happen if you dropped your coffee cup, the shrapnel would be lethal.

                                        what texture did you use for the specular massimo? Looks very real.
