This sounds interesting. It would be a help.

Perhaps settings to change the distance moved on a specific axis. ( so left arrow key pressed once could be moved 20mm then changed whenever).

Also the same thing as in a changeable distance or % for when the CTRL button is pressed (20% of 20mm when CTRL button is pressed)

Sorry to jump in on your post. Just elaborating on this as it seems a good idea. πŸ˜„

You could always try the unusually named Nudge tool.

Interesting but I hope it has at least 30 day trial like other plugins....

I didn't see a 30 day trial, but I bought it and it has been a real time saver. Prior to this I exported my pieces into blender as STLs and assembled them in Blender. Now I can assemble in Sketchup, and choose .01 movement increments to get pretty precise alignment of parts.

I have never been happy with the native move tool for finessing pieces of a model together.

That's odd. I find it much quicker and more precise to use the native Move tool for placing parts.

I should mention (it was late when I posted the last) that I do almost all my work on a laptop with a touchpad. So no middle mouse button or scroll wheel, and less precision. Slows me down, but I can work when my kid is doing her sports practice.

I've found SU to be almost unusable via touchpad. My sympathy!

Yeah. That's too bad that you have to use the touchpad. You might as well take up building ships in bottles with big heavy mittens on.

I have a old one (js_MoveTool) here that you can assign as a shortcut (for example Alt+M.) and use arrow keys to move.

                        Usage:

                        1. Select a object or group of objects.
                        2. Select the JS MoveTool and enter a distance in the VCB. Press Return/Enter.
                        3. Now move with arrow keys.
                        4. Use Alt + Up/Down to move in Z axis.
                        5. You can enter a new distance at any time.
                        6. Press Ctrl (Apple Key on Mac) for distance * 0.1
                        7. Press Shift for distance * 10

I too have a Nudge tool and it works with the camera if nothing is selected; and aectionnplane too. Maybe we all should put our heads together and create the ultimate nudge tool hehe!

I am with Dave here, I don't see how it can be easier than grabbing an object by the exact spot you want to mate to another and simply move it to the exact spot on the other object.

Anyone have an example video of the nudge tool in use? I am curious.

                              Paul
