Pdf to dxf/dwg converter for Mac OSX
-
Hi All
Being a bit of a newbie to the world of posting, I hope this one is in the right place.
Help needed for frustrated user of Pro 13 on Mac OSX 10.8.4 here in Darwin Australia.
Here's my problem:
Have pdf version of architectural drawing and want to covert it to dxf/dwg as the pdf is fuzzy and not precisely to scale when brought into SKU. AI CS3 will accept the pdf and pretend to export it as dxf/dwg. File exists in Finder but Sketchup won't import it - Bummer. Tried to find a pdf to dxf converter on the web, but they only appear as Windows versions. Does anyone know of a free or cheap pdf to dxf converter for Mac or got any suggestions.
Thanks
Orchard Collie.

If you need, I can do one file for you. My application does that (Mac) but you don't want to buy it just for that--$1K! Maybe someone knows of a cheap app. Would be interesting. However some pdfs will not translate to vector, if the pdf only has raster info or is encrypted somehow.

Thanks for your reply
In the end I just asked the client for the dxf version of the file and used that! -
you can use rhino for mac to do it for free (still in beta)
import the pdf then export as .dwg..
the only problem is that in the latest build released this morning, the importers broke.. the developer is now aware of it and he'll have a new build tomorrow which fixes it..

The cool thing about PostScript (the underlying imaging model for pdf) is that it is "resolution independent" because it stores text and diagrams as Geometry. You can scale it up as much as you like, and it will always be totally crisp.
However, PostScript (and therefore pdf) can also embed regular pixel images that have a fixed resolution.
If you find a pdf that is "fuzzy", in all likelihood, you've simply got a pdf containing an image.
And what that means, is you cannot convert it to a (geometric format) like dxf.
