I'm not sure if i'm getting this right...
This page (http://www.sketchup.com/products/sketchup-pro/new-in-2013) is showing all the new and amazing features of this build? Is this true?!? If yes, this is a very bad joke...
Anouncing a toolbar system that doesn't trash your screen layout when you resize the window as biggest new feature is unbelievable. And all other "improvements" i can find are related to layout. Is this true?!?

So what we get with this update is

      • no new features/improvements for sketchup, only bug fixes of things that should have been addressed years ago
      • "incredible" new features for layout like "curved label leader lines" (i don't use layout at all and if would do, why should i use curved label lines in an architectural drawing? This is just useless...)
      • a higher price
      • a subscription
      • a Sketchup "Make" (what a stupid name, and how does it correspond with "Pro"?!?) that no longer can be used at work.

      did i overlook something?

If this is really all, i know why this was such a quiet release... it's better if nobody sees it! I never thought that it could get worse than all these google warehouse/earth releases in the past...

      Is this really true? 😲

        Two important questions:
Can one still use v7.1 for commercial work?
Can it be run with new 2013 installed?

        Just a moment...

Oh, thanks! Now I'm happy πŸ˜„

I see this realize as a Trimble start, branding, packing and setting a course for future. Now they have much more work to do (see wishlist) to make people buy SketchUp after 7.1. Maybe in a few years...

The biggest feature for SketchUp for end users itself is the Extension Warehouse. (And that is a big feature - in terms of development time.)
There are more improvements, but under the hood.
But don't forget that Layout is part of the whole SketchUp Pro suite which got quite a lot of improvements.

Extension/Plugins repository/manager, fixing toolbar issues and Layout improvements has been very high up there on the list of requested features among users.

Pilou, you don't need a custom toolbar ruby anymore. The customization of toolbars is built right into the new release. You can drag icons from one toolbar to another or even create new toolbars from scratch and drag whatever you want to them. This ought to make most people's workspace far more economical, as you don't need to clutter it up with stuff you seldom use...like having to load an entire toolbar even though you only regularly use one tool on it.

Believe it or not, the old version had so many bugs, that in this version were fixed; most of the time they involved in bug fixing the old version which came with it's own problems then it came the new additions with their own bugs!

If you wanted something fancy and WOW ing, we could have waited for about two years !! I for one, can't wait that longer. The slight improvements are good for now, and I hope for more in the future !

That's exacly my issue when considering pro version. I honestly exepted this is a bit more than a payed bug fix pack plan with some eye candy and a promise that SU will be developed further. Will there be a 64-bit version for example? What about true circles and issues with extrude... some major core issues in SU seems not get a solution (or even a promise that they will be addressed).

              [sorry for the rant]

My impression is that SU2013 have been released earlier then expected, because the new feature of "extension warehouse" have had to start competing with SCF "Plugin store" as soon as possible.

actually, I think you have that entirely backward. I don't think it's any coincidence that the Sketchucation version appeared on the very same day as the Beta trials started...and certain people here got to see what was coming. πŸ˜‰
There is no 'competition' the extension warehouse is built right into the program. Sketchucation always has been a great resource and community, but the plain fact remains that most SU users are unaware of its existence...or if they are, they don't visit.

It's maybe nice to have but not needed. And how does it improve my daily work?!?

                  so i recap:

                  • improvements over v8: toolbar issue fixed
                  • new features/improvements for sketchup: 0

                  thanks!

There's many people not aware of the Plugins feature in SketchUp. And the biggest support question I've had as a developer has been about installing plugins. So while it might not be a game-changer for you - there's a huge number of users out there that will benefit from this.

Hmm.. I created a new toolbar, thats no problem. But how do you drag icons from the other toolbars to a newly created one?? I tried it in every possible manner- no luck.

It only works on native toolbars. Doesn't work on Ruby Toolbars unfortunately. 😞

and i was hoping for things like speed improvements on basic tasks like explode or copy/paste, better texturing, some plugin tools getting implemented in the core for (much) better performance, or quad/sub-D modeling...

                            stupid me!

Wow! Unless there is some really great changes under the hood not obvious yet, this is really disappointing. Higher price, uglier icons, still Ruby 1.6 no improvement in Ruby console (I thought sure the Unit Test stuff would make it in there) etc. etc. etc. Let's hope they did something of value when they expose the under the hood changes. Right now, very disappointing. The one thing that is obvious is the toolbar set up. Nice, but that is a onetime thing and I could easily have lived with the old method. What I don't like about the toolbar behavior is that I can't place a vertical x 2 column on the left or right side. It forces a x 1 horizontal column. Whose brain fart was that? This has me depressed.

The cross section stuff in LayOut is nice, but it would have been better if it were integrated into the Section tool in SketchUp. I haven't checked my list of bugs yet, but I bet when I do printing to scale and printing extents still isn't fixed; a problem that has existed since the beginning of time. So far Trimble gets a failing grade from me for its influence on SketchUp.

                              Joe....

First check the Extension Warehouse for v2013 compatible versions of your favorite plugins, and use those (not the ones from v8 or earlier!)

One of the things under the hood is a new supported C API SDK aimed to replaced the old unsupported C++ API SDK.

I heard about this release on the Maxwell forum and decided to come by to see exactly how bad it actually was -- and it's actually worse than I expected... that's hilarious. I especially like to see the people desperately trying to find something to be enthusiastic about... you've been trolled by Trimble, time to move on.

This is may be the worst full version update I've seen yet -- the licensing is a joke and I am now %100 convinced to give my money to another software company and never look back again.

If I hear at some point that Bacus is fired I may take a look at SketchUp again (unlikely though), until then have fun paying for this joke 🀒

I'm simply speechless. Do they really believe that the majority of Pro users are willing to pay for this "maintenance/ bugfix" update!?
For the new feature of the customizable toolbar - this has been possible in the Mac version a long time ago already incl. for 3rd party tools and ruby plugins. But now it can only be customized with native tools(!). Every restart will wipe out all non-native plugins and tools.. Sorry, but this is a step back and not a new feature! Now given the speedy development of the past, one tends to assume that it might get re-addressed again as a "new feature" in SU2014..
