Because they didn't make them to the correct scale.

Some models which have very small details are best off modelled at a larger scale, as SU struggles when you start getting to fractions of a millimetre. Just scale it down and you'll be fine.

You can also use the tape measure tool to scale the whole model down based on one specific dimension you know.

The rubbish sizing is purely because those are badly modeled by their author !
You might also find many other things wrong with 3dWH downloads, like un-purged layers/materials/components or reversed faces... Download and use with caution - there are may good modelers out there but also many idiots... The site is not much policed or audited...

To correct it is straight forward using Scale OR the tapemeasure tool - click two points you know are perhaps 1m apart in a correctly sized model - the VCB says perhaps 10m, then type 1m and when asked OK.
The whole model is scaled to suit. If you do this within an edit of group/component just the contents get scaled.

As TIG says, "those are badly modeled by their author !"

Also watch out for models that have been geo-located but shouldn't have been. There seems to be a fair amount of furniture and appliance components that have been geo-located by the authors. That will cause problems with inserting and using them.
