Proxies in the next version of VforSU?
-
In another subforum someone mentioned, I believe, that proxies will be a part of the next version of vray for SU. Can anyone flesh this out a bit more for me? Is there any information on when this might be released and/or how this would work? Not having proxies is the main thing that's kept me from trying vfsu rather than going through 3ds max.

Devin a developer at USA Chaosgroup said they were in closed beta with the new version. So there will be an open beta soon.

And those in close beta will be under NDA.

Yes, proxies will make it in the next official version of VFSU. According to
the person (he/she wants to remain anonymous as you can understand) , there are significant viewport like performance issues and animation may not be released in this version. He/She says the upcoming version of vfsu will blow your mind, esp. for landscaping. -

Are you able to give an answer to......Are you in the close beta?

I just wonder how do you guys continue to use it? No x64, no proxies, groups and components won't render, mats get lost . I gave up years ago.

No x64
After SU was made Large Address Aware which let me address up to 4GB I've not had any issues with running out of memory.

Simly: big models. Awkward, yes - but it works.

That's an age-old bug - fixed years ago! Time to update.

I avoid this because I don't keep SU loaded while I model. I load it only when I render.
My biggest issues with 1.49.01 is that DR isn't working reliably. Other than that I've managed to work with VfSU despite it bugs and issues because it's just so fast. The turnaround is so vital at my office due to constant revisions. Speed is king - and V-Ray is king of speed.
But I'm really looking forward to the next iteration - because it'll be so much better!

One thing for sure I could tell: without Max version (eating +- 15gb) I simply would be fired (though file exporting itself is a tedious job)
