SU keeps trying to connect to internet (laptop only)
-
I've had this problem for a while now.
Whenever I open (or close) SU on my laptop, it tries to connect to the internet, and nothing will proceed until I cancel the internet connection attempt. Last night I was trying to close SU, and each time I tried it did that, and after I cancelled the internet connection attempt it also cancelled the attempt to close SU, and I found myself in a vicious cycle. Finally, after many tries it did close, but I don't understand why it does this.
I don't want it to actually connect to the internet because I don't like wi-fi connections, they aren't nearly as secure as my hard-wired router here at home.
Any suggestions?

Turn off your wifi on the laptop?

Well, I'd actually rather not do that, because occasionally I do check my emails while I'm at the coffee shop. Just a quick in and out.
And even if I did do that, would that actually stop SU from trying to connect to the internet? -
It can't connect if there's no network connection. Try it.
You could set up a rule for your Firewall to prevent the connection.

But can you tell me why SU thinks it needs to connect to the internet? Is it looking for updates, or is it just trying to connect to a buddy somewhere

It pings homebase to let them know there is an activation.
It's like when SU splats you can immediately send a crash report without having to go through some long winded bug reporting via email.

In addition to John's list, there are a bunch of online functions of SU - maybe the most relevant (as one would often use it) the Component dialog box which is directly connected to tjhe internet to search models in the warehouse.
