Like said, I have no issue with ads at sketchucation.com, but the way how anti-adblock is implemented is not nice as it effectively forces enabling buysellads.com scripts at all sites (when NoScript is used), not just at sketchucation.com. I am sure that there must be a way to allow some sketchucation.com to use third party scripts (even I do consider them dangerous).
http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=buysellads.com
"What is the current listing status for buysellads.com?This site is not currently listed as suspicious. **Part of this site was listed for suspicious activity 1 time(s) over the past 90 days.**"
Don't know how reliable buysellads.com is, but even a hint of risk is often enough.

I think that advertising in general has a long way to go. While some TV ads are quite entertaining .... sometimes more so than the programs they are punctuating!
There is quite a lot of advertising over here for GoCompare.com, an insurance comparison site. The Welsh opera singer can be quite annoying at times but the latest advert has Prof Stephen Hawking's coming to the rescue .... its quite funny!

If you mean 'saturated' as in a lot of colour, maybe we could look into that.
Yes. They could be not that dominant. At the moment those look like virus warnings. -
I don´t have any ad block installed, but get the message to disable add block? Could it be the firewall software used in my workplace? Also I can´t ask the IT to disable whatever software they have there, there is any option?
-
I have "Allow some non-intrusive advertising" checked, but the ads are still blocked.
Equally interesting: I took a Snippet of the options form to include in this post and it displays as the banner instead of the snippet
-
I don't have a problem with disabling Adblock in order to participate in the SCF. With everything this site and its users have contributed, directly or indirectly, to my enjoyment and better understanding of SU it's easily worth looking at or at least tolerating some ads.
Seriously, think of it. Of all the fantastic free plugins. All the advice, help, praise, critiques. Worth it?
However, there is one area I'll make every effort to block. While I am willing for the SCF to get the ad revenue, I am not willing for the ad agencies to track me and sell my information data to unknown parties. I'm not getting paid to help them, nor do they have my permission. I hope it can be accomplished that we can have relevant ads without being spied on.

fwiw, i have website tracking turned off in my browser preferences (safari) and am still able to view content here at scf..

I am not sure it's a "tracking cookie" however. BSA may try to set cookies to provide statistics for their advertisers but I see no reason why these cookies should be "tracking" cookies. FB uses tracking cookies because that's how they decide what ads to display (yes, I hate that too and get FB cookies automatically deleted when closing the browser).
Now here the question is why BSA does NOT display the ad when cookies are denied. I will ask...
(We at SketchUcation do not use any tracking cookies you can imagine - the only cookie set is a session cookie to allow members to keep logged in - otherwise you would always be kicked out once changing the page).
-
Guys, I have asked Todd at BSA for his assurances. I will post as soon as I have further information but as Csaba says and I agree with, any tracking used by BSA is for advertiser stats. However, as I said, O will get confirmation on this.
-
Guys,
As advised I asked Todd at BSA to comment on the concerns of some members here. Here is a screen grab of Todd's reply. It speaks for itself.

hi,
back online with sketchucation !
I thought it wasn't going to happen. Seemed I couldn't get past the ad blocking thing.
Searched trough all my windows settings, all my firefox settings, all my norton settings nothing seemed to work. Finally I found a small add-on (I completely forgot about) DoNotTrackMe from Abine where buysellads is mentioned in the list of to block tracking cookies from. Allowed it, just for this site, and ... presto ! Slow but it works again.
@notareal,
with this add-on I could allow buysellads to have permission for just the site of sketchucation. I am not technical enough to know if this overcomes your objections towards allowing bysellads in sketchucation? But perhaps the info could help.
greetings,
erikB -

erikBThanks for the update Erik. Good that you located the DoNotTrackMe add-on. I wonder if the folks that are having some problems might also be using this add-on

I´m not using any addon but my office firewall block everything but the ads at the botton of the page. I guess I´ll have to get used to it.
-
I don´t use any ad-block or firewall software, I guess It is blocked in the network at the IT department, I work at at a large company +1000 employes and can´t talk to the IT department to disable the firewall for my connection. Even If I become a premium user I will be forbidden to download?

Hi jaceguay,
Premium Members have the option of using AdBlock if they so wish while viewing / downloading. I am sure you will be delighted with what we offer our Premium Members and probably will wonder why you have not taken up Premium Membership all along.

I for one enjoy advertising at places that interest me. I have yet to see an advertising unit here that does not sell something that is related to my field. It keeps me abreast of current technology and pricing and deals. Now the new egg ads that follow me all over the rest of the internet trying to sell me things that I've already bought on new egg... that's annoying.

The ads never bother me either but I can´t change the internet access configuration in my office.
Everything working fine now, thanks Mike, for the reply.
