Several thoughts:
*Hind sight gives you 20/20 vision;••right.. but how much hindsight do we need to have before we can turn it into foresight? i mean, we have thousands of years worth of hindsight & lethal weapons…
@unknownuser said:
*Lots of folks commenting on issues but have no back ground;
••i'm curious about what type of background you're expecting from someone before taking their words seriously ???
@unknownuser said:
*Mental illness diagnoses is not a science but art.They have this big dictionary and if they can manage to find behavior in that related to a particular case then that is what you have. Case in point: They said son of friend had ADD but then x ray testing proved other wise. Of course then help for them from social services was terminated.
••sorry, but you can't diagnose ADHD using X-ray.. (further- ADHD isn't a mental illness.. it's more of a trait)
@unknownuser said:
*My first hand experience: Because of concern about a person I went to the sheriff but after a lots of arm waving I finally came to the conclusion they had no interest in helping but only finding someone to blame. Luckily nothing has happen to date.
••my first hand experience: (age
gunfight in my living room with me present.. .30-06 vs. 44magnum… the man with the rifle shot first -- basically point blank into my dad's shoulder… dad puts a 44 round through the dude's heart and he dies right there in my house..so yeah, most if not all of my views on guns has that experience ingrained.. so maybe if my dad didn't have guns then i'd be dead right now.. but honestly, that experience didn't teach me to buy guns so i can protect myself in the future… it taught me how lame guns are and i've chosen to avoid them for the past few decades..
(fwiw- my dad and the guy he killed were friends/acquaintances… something a little earlier in the day had set him off… couple that with high amounts of alcohol and cocaine in his blood (via autopsy).. now add guns to that mix!! ?? come on man.. use your brain.. if there were no guns, my dad wouldn't have been shot and his buddy would still be alive (oh, and i didn't yet mention his wife and kid were at my house too when this all happened)..
so, mac.. am i allowed to have an opinion on this issue or not?
Of course you do the only problem I have many make statements of "fact" that are not real. Oh I probably do that my self.
*We get all these talking heads on TV and because they wrote a book they are an expert.
*Sorry think you are wrong on the ADD. A doc in the area has developed the technique using X ray ( maybe that is the wrong word ) but it maps brain function while the patient does certain tasks.
*Sorry about your family experience. I had to more that once remove all firing pins for guns in the house, and hide knives because of threats from father. We can never know what the out come of an event would have been if circumstances had been different. As I said above hind sight gives us 20/20 vision.
*Use the brain. ARRG : We have now degraded to insults as usual in these types of discussions. That is a typical left approach.
*There has not been much press coverage but I think the same day of the shootings students in China were attacked with a knife. The worst US case of this sort was in 1935( Talking head hat I have not searched) but gun nor knife was not used. Some people would not like to hear those stats.
*This will go not over big ,but when I talked about the auto loading I mean police should not have these types of objects either. I live a short distance from Columbine and watched their action all day on TV and they would suit up, remove and suit up again while they let a teacher bleed out in the school and the gunmen had free hand to kill as they please. There is no reason for them to have assault rifles!
- When you talk assault rifle look at the Swift 220 which is a varmint rifle. This was introduced in about 1935, has a muzzel velocity of about 4000 fps ( much higher that the 223) etc, very little drop at 500 yards and the hydro static killing power is high. Is this a weapon? No! It can become one if used for such. I get tried of folks calling any thing in the their talking points a weapon. A object only becomes a weapon when used for attack or defense in combat fighting or war.I guess that means any thing in our daily lives if not used properly??
*The right to bear arms ( note it is plural) is for the sovereign to protect them selves from a despotic government. History has shown that is necessary. What is one of the first things they want to do?? It has been shown time and again the police will not or cannot protect you. If you don't care that is your choice.

You mean leftist? Are you suggesting that employing insults is a modus operandi typical of those adhering to leftist views? If so, wouldn't that count as an insult in itself? An actual insult, unlike what Jeff said?

Mac, I'm curious if you've read my thoughts on that Amendment. What benefit is there to the status quo?
Regarding x-rays and ADD, it would be beneficial to reasearch a subject before citing it as a basis to support an opinion. First, it isn't X-rays, it's an fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging), a device that is used to map brain activity. Second, there is no clinical basis supporting the use of fMRI to diagnose ADD or ADHD. Either your information is incorrect or the Dr. doing the testing is using a valuable medical resource improperly and costing the people and insurance companies a lot of money. There is current data from several sources supporting my position. One from Princeton:
@unknownuser said:
Despite the promise of brain imaging for aiding clinical diagnosis, currently no imaging techniques are recommended for this purpose...
. Princeton, 2012.A random source:
@unknownuser said:There is substantial evidence of a brain metabolic deficit in children and adults with ADHD. In patients with ADHD, cranial computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) show no consistent pattern of structural abnormalities in adults or children that would be of significant benefit in diagnosis of ADHD.
I also take exception to the use of the epithet "leftist" in your comments. If you choose to use that term I submit that the opposite side if the political spectrum is the one responsible for supporting cutting medical services to the mentally unstable (from families who cannot afford insurance, or the individual is unableto obtain it for multiple reasons), supporting loss of insurance due to pre-existing conditions (by opposition to changing the restriction) and by opposing or failing to contribute useful legislation regarding the sale and ownership of firearms.
Regarding the Chinese students in the recent knife attack - while it is a horrific incident, all of the children are still alive.

Just posting to bring the sentiment in this thread to the fore again as a gesture that it was not a "popular" topic to be relegated to somewhere less than the first page of this forum.

hey Steve.. couldn't you of just typed 'bump' instead of all that?

Alex Jones needs medication....fucking crazy American.
-
the u.s. has more weapons than any other empire has ever accumlated.. (way way more).. they've also killed more people than any other empire ever has (this is a guess.. but i'm thinking there's a shitload of blood on us.. even when compared to the 'violent' regimes)..
i'm pretty sure the u.s. gun problem can be solved using a 3rd grader's math equation with a slight twist of logic in the mix..
-
Hang on...........is Alex Jones allowed to have weapons? Did he get trough the 'loony filter' He is sane and of good character enough to satisfy the US government ownership laws? BRRRRRR...Shivers real shivers

He has 50 of them, at least that's what he said. This guy is one crazy SOB.

He's one angry dude.....

Just part of an email that ended up in my inbox.
A LITTLE GUN HISTORYIn 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
-
Cory,
Who said anything about taking guns away?
Are you saying that you need guns to defend yourself from your own government? if yes then why do you always vote for politicians that want to increase military spending? is that not contradictory to what you are hoarding guns to defend yourself against?
And if you say you are stock piling guns to protect yourself from foreign invasion then you have no need as the US military is adequately funded and stocked.
-
I believe This is the start of them trying to confiscate guns. I do believe that Feinstein woman is the only one who has came right out and said anything about confiscation.
I hope and would like to think our own military would have no part of it since they take that oath about protecting their country from all enemies both foreign and domestic.
And I did not say any of that it was just part of an email that ended up in my inbox.
I do not hoard or stock pile guns either. I bought my first long gun a shotgun at the ripe old age of 12 years old with my own hard earned cash, and every rifle/pistol/shotgun since has just taken up another slot in a safe. How about we call it a collection.:] -
Have tried to stay objective......but.....
"During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!"
You are an idiot! you really are! plain and simple!
-
Hey Steve, cool you jets there cheif!! You read that first sentence of the post that says "this is part of an email that made it to my inbox"? All I know for sure about the Japanese is that after the start of it all my grandfather ended up in POW camp for many many months.

This information is pretty much accurate. However, it is misleading. The UK doesn't have guns and they only had 1.2 murders per 100,000. Australia doesn't have guns and they had 1.0, China probably doesn't have guns and they had 1.0, Canada had 1.6 and Monaco had 0. Monaco probably doesn't have a 100,000 people? None of these countries are on the list, at least I didn't see them. At any rate, the list was designed to be misleading.

Hey guys I just want to say I am not trolling or trying to get folks who do not like others point of view, or thoughts, in a uproar.
Just trying to say/show there are two sides to everything, and throwing some info I thought would be pertinent to the subject.
And that gun control done by banning anything is not the way I feel gun control should be handled.
And since Solo may ask, how I think it should be handled. I do not know.
I will shut up, forget about this thread if everyone just thinks I am some kind of crazy, and just trying to get people in an uproar.
