File done on Mac wont open on PC
-
Hello everyone, just a bit of help. I am trying to open a file I created at work on Sketchup 7 for Mac on my PC with the same Sketchup 7 version and it wont open. It says "Failed to open document". The file is not corrupted for sure because I tried opening several files and it give me the same response.
I dont know if this info helps but when I try to open the file from selecting it while I have the sketchup program open (not double clicking the file from a folder) there is a preview for the file. Help please, i have a deadline coming up and i cant afford to remodel -
How are you transferring the file from the Mac to the PC? Did you put it on a memory stick or something? In the past when I've had issues opening a SketchUp file on another machine, I've found that e-mailing it to myself works. You might try that.

File is 2Gb. I will try to compress and see if i can email it and open. Thanks! Will update the result.

Could you supply the full error message.
I suspect it's not so short
Help us to help you...Can you open other SKP files on your PC.
By double-click on the SKP file's icon, or by 'open' from within SketchUp when it is already launched. Are you sure this is a SKP file and not a SKB file.
Set your display settings to show ALL file-extensions.
The SKB file is one save behind the SKP, made as a backup.
Changing its suffix to .SKP will let SketchUp open it.Assuming it refuses to open it might be a corrupted SKP.
Can you return to the original MAC SKP, use Model Info > Statistics > Fix Problems [and perhaps 'Purge Unused' too], save and copy to your PC and retry it...Are you sure you let the file copying completer to the USB stick?
Was there enough capacity to take the whole file etc...As Dave says, if you email it to yourself does it then work?
You can attach files here up to 4Mb [zip it if needs be].

I copied the file from my Mac in the office to an external drive. I will try emailing it to myself and update you. Thanks Dave!

2 Gb? I have never heard of an skp file so heavy. What's it made of? Gold?
