Making Isometric Floors
-
Hi all. I'll give a brief introduction and then explain what I'm trying to accomplish. By day I'm a self employed IT consultant and by night I'm an inspired indie dev trying to make an old school RPG, isometric style.
I have worked on this many times myself but just can't get the results I'm after. I would like to use Sketchup to make Isometric art such as floors, walls, doors and all kinds of objects used in isometric games. The other alternative is Blender but Blender has a pretty steep learning curve so I would rather not invest the time to learn it.
So tonight I tried to make a simple isometric floor. The problem is the pieces just don't line up right. It feels like I am shooting in the dark because the fact is I really don't know what dimensions that square has to be to line up correctly. I could really use some help on this on how I correctly make a floor that will tile correctly.

There is my floor and notice how it doesn't line up correctly. I made a simple square and applied a texture and outputted it as a png dimensions 128x149.
Can anyone help me? This is quite frustrating and I really want to figure it out, thanks!

the three geometries looks like separate geometries. Do one thing use single plane as a floor and apply tile texture.

I was curious to see what others might post, because I wondered what your issue is. Hard (for me anyway) to tell from the picture.
You can post pictures directly here, just page-down in the reply page to "Add Attachment". You can also post an example file. Perhaps more of an idea what you start with and what you are after.

Pleas remember that SketchUp models objects in REAL 3d, so you use squares, rectangles, circles, boxes etc... and then VIEW them in way that produces 'Axo' or 'Iso' views, which can then be used to make images...
Search the 'Plugins Index' [accessed from the Resources menu above] for my longstanding toolset 'Axo + Iso View'... This will make a 30/30 Iso view for you...
As others have said - please learn to attach images/files to your posts - you are likely to get a better response when other members don't have to go off elsewhere to view what is in essence a simple image that could have been integral to your post...
