    • Making Isometric Floors

Hi all. I'll give a brief introduction and then explain what I'm trying to accomplish. By day I'm a self employed IT consultant and by night I'm an inspired indie dev trying to make an old school RPG, isometric style.

I have worked on this many times myself but just can't get the results I'm after. I would like to use Sketchup to make Isometric art such as floors, walls, doors and all kinds of objects used in isometric games. The other alternative is Blender but Blender has a pretty steep learning curve so I would rather not invest the time to learn it.

So tonight I tried to make a simple isometric floor. The problem is the pieces just don't line up right. It feels like I am shooting in the dark because the fact is I really don't know what dimensions that square has to be to line up correctly. I could really use some help on this on how I correctly make a floor that will tile correctly.

There is my floor and notice how it doesn't line up correctly. I made a simple square and applied a texture and outputted it as a png dimensions 128x149.

Can anyone help me? This is quite frustrating and I really want to figure it out, thanks!
