Could you supply a model with a sample of the spiral mesh for testing?

Nothing is worthless, it can always be used as a bad example.

Depending how are your segments of spiral
if then don't touch any other a simple double click is sufficient πŸ˜‰

Else look at Selection Toys by Thomthom

if each segment of the spiral is similar take look at
select line by length by Chris Fullmer

thank you, i will check this. for my job the plugin must be a sort of intelligent to be able to decide, which direction the string goes, it's rather tricky. because of the geometry of a spiral a simple selection by rectangle or anything else does not work.

Thomthom's "QuadFaceTools" [see the Plugins Index...] lets you pick connected 'loops' like your spiraling paths.
I just tested it on your faced version [it needs the faces!] and I selected the spiraling edges quite easily...

If you own the plugin SketchUV (Whaat), you can doubleclick on one line with the path select tool:

                  Hey, Pilou:
Exactly who/what popped into my mind when he mentioned spiral mesh.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.
