I really can't figure out how to render this: a perforated metal mesh.

I have a curved mesh (created with Soap Skin & Bubble plugin), and I need to render this with a perforated metal material. I downloaded a .vismat perforated material and it looks great but its shadows don't.

Could someone help me to understand how to apply the material to the mesh in order that the shadow are "perforated" too??

      Thank you.

Yes I did but still can't manage to perforate the mesh. Should I use reflection, displacement or both?

simply use a png map with a transparent background in the in the diffuse slot.
make sure to tick the "use texture transparency" checkbox.
you can use the same diffuse png map to get bump/displacement/reflection/whatever map just with a little photoshop..

            hope this can help..
