      Hi,
my pc is very slow since I use sketchup
more I build, more he load, if I copy some building 3 or 4 times he beggin to load a lot, the fan run very speed and make noise, sometimes sketchup crash
can it be in relation with the size of my buildings ?
does a smaller/resized building take less place than a big sized one ? (for example when I resize a building it take a lot of time to do it, around 5minutes)
I have an Intel DuoCore 3GHZ, it should be enough...
I am saving on 😄 (74go free) and my work is only 16mo..
p.s. I have disconnected the auto save

      thanks!!

Are you using components for repeatable elements?

SketchUp will eventually hit a poly limit and memory limit. There are things to speed up performance like style settings and some opengl settings.

But based on that image it's hard to make a diagnosis.

Do you know the difference between components and groups?

              thanks for your video
I didn't use component in my actual work, only selected the buidling, -> CtrlC and CtrlV, after that I took the building with M and past it to the other one
do you think if I use component it will be more light ?
need I explode the item ?

if you have a piece of geometry at 2000 faces and make a copy you then have 4000 faces. If it's a component then you have 2 instances of one component.

                simply put...

understanding components and where to use them is important part of SketchUp.

Is it a group at the moment? If so, no, just right click and 'make component' thne move copies of that wherever and see if it helps?

                  you're totally right
                  making component is very practice
I created a component with my biggest building
it took time but now it's ok, all is very quick now
I explode the component when I want to cut a part of it , it's very practice
                  all goes quicker now
thanks a lot for your good idea

p.s. how to erase components from the component menu ??

p.s. about group ? what is it ? a certain number of components fusionned togheter ?

                    There's a Purge Unused pop-out in the model-pane of the Component-Browser.

To Purge ALL unused things [Components, Materials, Layers and Styles] use the Model Info > Statistics > Purge Unused option.

A Group is a collection of entities.
These entities can be 'raw' geometry, other groups or component-instances etc.
Groups should only have one 'instance' in the model, although copying a group can result in a second instance that exists until one of the groups is then edited - and then they'll both revert to being individual definitions again.

A Component is a collection of entities - just like a Group - BUT it appears in the Component-Browser model-pane, and it can be 'saved as' an external SKP too, and therefore readily reused in other Models later on - letting you build up a library of reusable elements like doors, windows, stairs, cars etc...

If you have an object that will be used more than once then use a Component of it, and place several instances of it. Using Components is recommended. The entities inside it only exist inside its definition and the instances you put into the model are 'placeholders' - therefore the model size is reduced.

If you edit one instance of a Component [double-click or when it's selected right-click context-menu > 'edit component'] all other instances of the same component will change to match your editing - this is another useful thing. However, if you want to edit one instance and leave the others unaffected... then if you select it and right-click and use 'make unique' it becomes another definition in the Component-Browser [door >>> door#1 etc] - now when you edit it you will not change the others - again useful for making variants of objects...

Only use Groups if the object is never going to be repeated. Many users always use Components, personally I sometimes use Groups - often for temporary collections...

Groups and Components [and actually 'Images'] are all instances of 'Definitions' - the different being how they are accessed by the user and what can be done to them...

                      TIG,

What a great explanation!!! That post should be in a sticky somewhere on the forum.
