This has been reported to Google 3d warehouse and no action has been taken. So it seems that google do not take piracey seriously.

The same thing happened to me a while back, but the duplicate model was removed a few days after I reported the problem. How long ago did you file your complaint?

I thought the general rule was never put anything online that you don't want stolen 😉

            Hi Hieru

My model was reported on the 8th July.

The thing is that all of the models in Olivier Aurbry's alias titi collection are stollen, and when you look at the comments this has been going on for quite a while. He has been reported befor and the models are still there as his own work.

Maybe i am jumping the gun, but after four days i expect prompt action or some form of comunication from an organisation like Google. You can bet your bottom dolar, that if google found someone useing their software illegaly, they would be on them like a rash.

Google has a duty to protect the people that are uploading their work for free, which benefits the Google website.

Generally that's the way I look at it. Since there are so many duplicate models in the warehouse I only complained to Google to see if the complaints system actually worked.

It might be a staffing issue associated with the sale of SU i.e. Google could have pulled their staff from the warehouse and Trimble have yet to allocate replacements. I'm only guessing as I'm not sure what the arrangement is between Google and Trimble as far ass the warehouse is concerned.

                  Hi Hieru

I have been checking the models in his collection and complaints go back to the beginning of the year, so that is six months and he has been reported on every model in his collection.

I am more angry that google have taken no action in six months.

I purchased Sketchup pro when it was owned by Google, I did the right thing and purchased the product, when i could have easily used a cracked version. If google doesn't take piracey seriously why should anyone else.

Google should give the 3d warehouse to Trimble as they are unable to run the site properly.

In which case I don't understand the inconsistency (removing some models, but leaving others).

Best to chill. No choice really. Google doesn't care much, if at all. If you share, know and accept the risks or you'll give yourself a pain. If you are looking for accolades then you can post appropriate comments when a thief is spotted, as you have done. But the thief won't enjoy any rewards and you have your good ratings intact, and we all appreciate your generosity. Look at all the nice models which have been shared, with not much thought of a reward, mostly in the spirit of sharing, perhaps with a dose of ego blended in for 'good' measure. Be of good cheer; don't let titi bring you down; he is not likely a happy camper.

By sharing a model, you acknowledge any "derivated" versions shared by anyone else in the 3DWH. Now what "derivative" is, can be, of course a matter of discussion but keep one thing in mind: Google wants these models to be accessible to the widest variety of users. They (as a corporation) do not give the slightest shit who shared the model (first). You, by sharing it, give right to others to use (and modify and re-publish etc.) your model. That's it. Read the TOS.

If you do not want these dudes to do so, you have the option to control who can downloadthe model at all...

...Unfortunately the 3D Warehouse is populated with a lot of juvenile individuals which can result in childish 1 star ratings, unfortunately that means it can quickly become a full time job to police such activities. People are also entitled to their own opinions which may result in 1 star ratings as well. Finally, as we've moved from Google infrastructure to SketchUp (loosely Trimble) infrastructure we can't react to these things in a timely manner (or at all ... for now) so this will just have to sit until we can look at them from an Administrator login for the 3D Warehouse.

I agree with Csaba. By posting your models on the 3D Warehouse you have given basically given up the right to complain about who does what with them.

Certainly. You always have the possibility (given by Google) to limit who can download our model. Please, use the sharing options to do so.

Submitting an ''exact duplicate of another model" is however still listed as a policy violation.

And then who cares (unless you insist yourself reporting it)?

If you do not want to get your model copied and shared as others', do not share it.

Even worse; I know of companies who downloaded models and then got substantial EU funds to make them and they turned them in as their own and received moneys you would not even dream of for such (basic) models.

                                  So much about EU fundings.

I originaly posted my work on the 3D warehouse for anyone and everyone to use in any which way they wanted to. they can do what ever they want to my models, i don't care.

Infact i recieved email from a teacher stateing that my model of an elephant was used in a class project at a junior school. the teacher thanked me and sent me a link to a funny video the kids had made. And that made me really happy, as it sums up the whole idea of the 3d warehouse. You give up the rights to your work for others to use in new way to create more models.

But finding the exact same model on the same website. Seems to me to be pushing the limits of shareing a bit to far. This guy has done nothing but copy other peoples work for the last six months. If the whole of the warehouse becomes copies of copies of copies, it defeats the point.

I was more upset that Google seem to be taking no action.

Nick, that's really cool that you got the thank you from the teacher and an opportunity to see how the kids used your model.

I agree that posting another persons model as your own is going too far. It isn't an ethical thing to do. Still, when you look at the internet as a whole there are an awful lot of more unethical things going on that never get stopped. I'm not saying it is right but in the grand scheme, it's probably not worth losing any hair over.

It would be nice if Google or Trimble could provide a management staff to make sure this stuff was dealt with and offenders removed. It would take a lot of people to mange it and staff costs money and the warehouse would have to be a revenue source for them. That would mean users would have to pay to download models and it would become like FormFonts which probably doesn't have this problem.

I don't think anything is going to change any time soon so I guess share and take the risk, set permissions to limit who can download your models or keep your models to yourself.

It's probably no consolation but I downloaded the other guy's model and it lists you as the author in model info credits. It ( the 3DW ) lists you as the original author.
