Car Insurance!!!
-
Recently had a minor bingle with another car, my fault.
Insurance rep called me with the cost. $1300.
Told him I was self-employed and cash was tight, was there any way I could have an arrangement, ie: pay it off in installments...
..Bit of hemming and hawing.. Could I manage $800 in a months time?."What! you are knocking off $500 just like that?"
"Yep."Live and learn mon amis

Everything is negotiable.

That's strange... should be a real estimate to repair, or no? The fellow may be getting a whole lotto bondo in lieu of some metal?
But good for you. Take the rest of the day off.

I don'get this ,,my car insurance covers all the damage I would made(to other cars and traffic participants) while I drive, up to 200 000 euros I think . Why do you have to pay ?
-
deductible?

You should see how bad they are here in Ireland, I was in a car crash on the 3rd of April, other drivers fault, my car was wrote off, I got it for β¬8000 3 yrs ago, I only got β¬2500 for the car from he's insurance, I suffered financially and he gets a slap on the wrists, some joke, car insurance are only a sticker on your window, gangsters who you would swear they had to stick thor hands in their own pockets.
Remember: sticker on your window, that's all they are

A legal requirement you must have and 'pays out' when the unexpected happens... BUT insufficiently to you, but if you had been judged in the wrong too much to the other guy
Now in the UK there are specialist solicitors who say to pass your claim to them before contacting your own insurance.
You should have been fully compensated by the other guy's insurance, without any need to involve your own insurers except to keep them informed of events. If it's the other guy's fault then he [or his insurers] foot the whole bill... You should not be out of pocket and you should get sufficient recompense to replace the car with an equivalent one.The 'sticker on the window' reference might be confusing...
In many places [like the UK] you only have to carry proof of insurance with you [say with your driving-license] but in Eire as well as displaying a 'tax-disc' on your windscreen you also have to display an 'insurance-disc' [In the US the tax-disc is equivalent to your 'license-plate', but in UK/EU the license-plate is a separate thing belonging to the car itself not the driver - unless you are in Switzerland where you are given a license-plate when you pass your driving test and that applies to every car you ever own - a directory lists the license-reference against your name and address so if you see a pretty girl driving a car in Switzerland you can find out where she lives...!!!] -
I have no insurance for anything, (except 3rd party} on anything.
As a 62yo, I figure I am quids ahead. And I am.
This was my first accident involving anyone else ever, maybe lucky. The thing that blows me out, is that with a simple whinge, the price I had to Pay was cut by 30%.
As the man said. "Everything is negotiable"
As i said... we live & learn. -
That's not entirely true Tig, I taught that too, my car was valued at β¬8000 3yrs ago, and even tho it was insured at that insurance company's only pay out what the car is valued at now, I baught my BMW when the economy was booming, but since the resession hit the value of high powered petrol cars decreassed bringing the value of my car down to β¬2500 on the market today, this is why I only got this much, it's a joke and I totally agree that the person who was not at fault should not be out of pocket but it doesn't work that way, ideally it should but both persons suffer financially no matter what, believe me iv just gone threw it all, I say again insurance is only a sticker on your window.
