I suspect its post production but either way I'd like to know. this is someone elses but you can see how the white areas that catch the sun glow

Not as far as I know??? but someone better qualified might be able to answer, I'm happy to do it as a post production effect but have no idea how to do it!

Lens Effects will be added in the next update. You can see the result in our latest update to V-Ray for Rhino: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Itk_EJSyJwc

                  thanks guys

it looks like 'bloom' is the right terminology for what I'm looking for, I've found this tutorial
                  to do it manually,

                  http://www.oferz.com/Tutorials/BloomEffect/BloomEffect.html

although it will affect the whole image, if I select the right vfb channels there is probably a way to isolate it to the areas I want.

                  Thanks

That's how most folks do it anyhow. Turning on such effects would increase render times and Photoshop is much more flexible.

ah thanks man, I wasnt sure whether it was an in render feature or post production or even what it was called, now I know!

Still you have to be careful you dont get carried away with too much post production!

There's a saying, "Photoshop is the best rendering engine on the market!"

I don't believe our lens effects hit the render time much or at all. You will definitely have to use Photoshop (or Gimp if you don't like spending money) in the meantime though.
