.exr conversion
-
Hi guys
Probably another easy one,
I have had problems rendering images at a high res without the computer crashing so i followed an online tutorial to render vr image, the image rendered fine and as expected but into a .exr format. I followed the tutorial further and corrected the exposure problems it created however I'm then stuck as to how to convert the .exr into a jpeg, I've seen some online convertors but my images are sensitive and I dont want these to be potentially shared or copied by the softwares that I'm running them through online. Any help on this? Photoshop is my main means of photoediting.
Thanks in advance

look for "HDR converter", several free ones out there. Picturenaut comes to mind.

Thanks Andy bot
I managed to work around it in photoshop, normally when I have a similar problem it involves changing the mode, in this case I think it was 32 bit down to 8 bit, the problem was it opened a second dialogue box instead of a simple save as and all of the options appeared to alter the colour balance/contrast/hue/saturation of the image, in the end I think there was a box with something like mode or method and I changed it to 'gamma or 'exposure' not 100 but this did not effect the image thankfully! sorry the instructions are a little vague but it was on my work computer so im doing from memory

Yes, you have to go to Image - Mode - and change to a 8 bit in order to save a JPEG. Do this after you have made you exposure corrections. Once you go to 8 bit you lose a lot of that extra lighting info contained in a 32 bit format.

That's how hdr conversion works, you have to tell photoshop what part of the 32bit range you want to compress to 8bits. It's not an automatic process.

Oh right I see thanks guys, using the VR Image option opens up so many options, before I was having to simplify my model when in reality the more complex the more convincing the render

apparently saving to vray image just doesn't work for me..
i tried to render a large image like 4000 x 2250 with a rather large geometry with all the blurry reflections, lights and displacement stuff on it.. rendering using vray image just crashed as well as the regular rendering mode.. where i can find a good tutorial for this? -
so.. nobody can help me to find such tutorial? I've tried following this tutorial:
http://www.sketchup-ur-space.com/august11/how-to-render-extra-huge-output-image-without-crashing-in-vray-sketchUp.html
but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work, when i render the scene, it quickly run out of memory..
looks quite simple, but don't work.. i just't can't figure out what the problem is..
i'm tryng with last vray version, if this can be useful.. -
that is my tutorial.. try this work around...
- render using small output, once ir and lc were calculated. saved these calculations. then load them again.
- once loaded change the output. this time render it in chunks using region render.
-
well, i don't understand exactly, but i will try as soon as possible.. anyway I have to wait for the current render to end..
just a question: the technique you explain in your tutorial only works in irradiance map calculation or will work also using DMC?
maybe the point is i don't 100% understand the whole irradiance map thing..
when you render with DMC as primary engine, the whole irradiance map parameters tab doesn't take any effects on the render or it will as well as using IM as primary engine?
in my case i'm tryng to use dmc so.. will the irradiance map calculation and saving etc. work for me? or i need to switch into IM engine maybe?
please help me if you can cause i'm a bit confused and sorry for my poor english of course..
