I'm just attempting my first interior renders with VfSU and I'm having a problem with my mirror material when I render out my final images, as seen here:

      http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e121/karlb1985/mirrorsample.jpg

I have two settings I've been using (downloaded from elsewhere and tweaked to suit) - 'preview' and 'production' and when I render using the preview the mirror looks fine but when I switch to the production settings I get this blotchy effect. I know it's something to do with my vray settings and likely to do with subdivisions but it's driving me mad that I can't find it!

      Any suggestions please folks?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this - it's pretty urgent as I need to sort it today. I've tried upping the samples of lights, increasing the light intensity and upping the subdivisions but still no luck.

        Would seeing my settings help?

Erase the mirror, copy and paste an existing one (I can see you have other ones in your scene). See if it works.

Thanks, but I've tried that. It's actually happening to all the reflective surfaces in my scene, it just shows up much more significantly on this mirror.

Well, in that case I suggest to create your own reflective material and see if that works (it should).
And like you say, you have to different settings (not seeing the difference between those two), can't say much. See the differences in option vray in "preview" and "production".
When you download settings from elsewhere they do not always look the same in your model as they would in theirs (creator).

look for where you have a secondary reflections check box turned off. (I'm not at my computer right now where I have vray, I'll check later for the exact settings box.) What you are seeing is your Light Cache pass only, you are not getting a calculation of your final raytrace pass.

I have reflection/refraction on under global switches with the max depth set to 2 - worth turning it to 3 to see if that solves it?

ok - found the info. Under Light Cache--> Reconstruction parameters, uncheck "use for glossy rays"

Glad you figured it out, I was going to suggest Windex...
