Mac Zooming... is this the correct behavior?
It is almost opposite that on my Dell. On the PC, when I would point to empty space, the zoom would slow to a crawl.
On the Mac, it flies all over.

and the link, for those that are flashless:

Any settings to change this, or is it a bug?

Don't you (or your mouse erroneously) double click with the MMB by any chance? I used to have weird zooms and jumps until it turned out that my mouse is double clicking.

using the scroll wheel, on a cheap 2 button logitech mouse.
          no clicking required.

for now i pasted in a large rectangle as a ground plane.

That seems strange. I don't have that problem when zooming with my cheap wireless Logitech mouse on my MBP.

              yeah... weird.
i have a m525 and a programmable m705. the m705 has the ratcheting wheel, which i now find annoying.
(really want a magic track pad for left hand with the programmable number pad... more $$)

that model has imported DWG plans and elevations.
when hovering over a line, it zooms as expected.
as soon as i get off the geometry it goes a bit wonky.

will try it in another model without the imported linework and see what happens.

                Mine's an M325 with a smooth-rolling mouse. I really like it.

in my experience, in order to zoom in and out without uncontrollable jumps, you must place the cursor over some geometry.

Edson, that's a good point. I made the assumption that BMike was aware of that and keeping the cursor on the geometry. In the case of an imported CAD file with no faces, it would be easy to have the cursor slip off the geometry.

                      Thoughts, Mike?

yes, dave. this can become a nightmare. one way out of it is to create a big rectangle under the CAD lines.

Agreed, but on the PC, when I slip off the geometry the zoom slows to a crawl.
Now that I've switched over to Mac... I get the warp drive zoom.
Something to get used to I guess, especially when zooming with imported CAD lines.

I'm so tempted to try this... I went out and bought a full size keyboard so I had a numpad (got used to it on my Dell 'mobile' (ha ha ha) workstation. But my one gripe was always taking my hand off the mouse...

Depending which template you use, there are options for programmable keys... which I would set as 'M', 'Option', etc...
I need to read up and see if activating and deactivating is automatic or can maybe set up with a script - I'd want this on in SketchUp and maybe Excel when I'm doing material take offs - but as I've come to love the trackpad on my new toy, I'd want to be able to zoom and pinch and swipe when I was web browsing or doing other tasks.

I used to use the older version of this:

                              http://www.belkin.com/images/product/F8GFPC100au/FUL1_F8GFPC100au.jpg

At the time I had 3 profiles setup - AutoCAD, SketchUp, and a CNC visual machine simulator for transferring timber components out of AutoCAD.

For AutoCAD and SketchUp I had the throttle wheel set for fast zoom - this would be for quick in and out of models, mouse wheel was for close in work. I then had move, copy, paste, UCS, undo, redo, etc. etc. programmed to the function keys.

Made cad work very efficient... might have to see if I can get it working on the Mac.

Those both look cool. Problem with the film I might need to continue to look to find the numbers. Also tempting to use the pad with a stylus.
                                Thanks.

As for the zoom. I have no problems, on or off an object. It doesn't even seem that different, if at all.

yeah, that's my take on the topic as well... i don't think i've ever had that jump zoom occur as seen in the video..
possibly one of those problems that just disappears eventually 😄 (or do you see this behavior in all files other than this particular cad import?)

working as expected in another file with PDF, CAD, and JPG imports... so might just be that drawing.
will have to go in there and clean it up and strip it down, maybe copy / paste into another file and see what happens.

copied out what i needed and pasted into a new drawing and this strange behavior disappeared.
so, very likely something with the CAD import... but i brought over 3-4 groups of CAD lines.

                                      thanks for the help.
