Bugs?

Has anyone else using 01.49.01 experienced these two issues?
-
reflection layers tend to magically dissapear
-
on occasion, SU minimizes itself after I close Vray's material editor (like it would with the previous version(s) of VfSU after altering light properties)

yup. save early, save often...
When I get strange things happening, I save what I'm working on, close everything out, and then open it back up. Mostly things are OK. As for the material layers, I also save vismats often when I like a material. -
I was afraid it wasn't user error.
The current version has been out for how long now? I know it's a two-man dev team, but seriously, they ought to step up their game. VfSU's fairly expensive -these sort of glaring, workflow-hampering bugs should most certainly NOT be in there. I think I'm done with VfSU.
-
Yeah, really frustrating. I think that's why so many of us vfsu people keep looking at the new products coming out. Just so many stupid limits with the crurrent vfsu. Though for still images, I have yet to find anything to compare in speed and quality. I am testing Thea right now, and am finding good things about it... just have to figure out what all the damn buttons do. I hate having to learn yet another interface...

Limitations I can live with -but not the sort of bugs VfSU invariably comes with. And I really don't like that they aren't adressed within a reasonable timeframe. Bugs can stay in there for years. That's not normal -certainly not, and I do hope its devs are reading this, given VfSU's price.

True, but that's the engine you're talking about. And it's a great one, no doubt -I love it. The plugin they slapped on top of it, and I think I can say this after tinkering about with it for the past few years, isn't great.
Oh well. I guess things might improve in the future.

Yeah, this is the consensus these days. I am currently testing Maxwell to bring it into my workflow. Much easier interface and a free version to play around with to test drive. I am also thinking about making the switch to using Max when I render. There's a much larger user base for V-Ray for MAX and that engine is on 2.10 and does an excellent job. I think the amount of actual licensed users of the SU version is very small and this makes it fall very low on the Chaos Group list of priorities. If 50,000 users were licensed don't you think Chaos would have a 15 person team developing it? I've said it before and I will say it again, I wait patiently but eagerly for 1.50 Beta.

There's apps out there that are being developed by an equally small -or even smaller- team that does a far better job at addressing bugs than the VfSU guys do. I know for a fact there aren't large teams working on Thea, Podium, MoI, 3DCoat -the list goes on.
Chaos should offer a discount to VfSU users who'd like to opt out and sidegrade to Vray for Max. And as for the development of VfSU, they should either take it more seriously or pull the plug altogether, 'cause the way things are currently going is just plain insulting to paying customers.
I'd obviously prefer the first option. Take out the bugs, and you got yourself a great product. (Then give that terrible UI an overhaul, and you've got yourself an excellent one. )
-
I have been told directly that the UI is not going to be changed in the next release, so get used to it.
-
I have gotten used to it. After all, I've bought my license several years ago. Still, I cannot help but wonder why they didn't choose to streamline and simplify the UI, given the general profile of their target audience. This sounds harsh, I know, but as far as I'm concerned, there's a distinct air of half-bakedness to the the plugin as a whole, and to the UI in particular. I'd expect it to be a little more well-rounded by now. That said -I do realize I'm not to expect too much in this regard. But the most annoying bugs, they should go, as I like to get my money's worth. I mean, only today I had a reflection layer dissapear five or six times in roughly an hour of material tweaking. I wouldn't call that acceptable by any standard -and I do not own any other renderer that has a bug of this magnitude.
-
Bump layers dissapear too. And reflection layers don't only dissapear -they multiply themselves as well.
Guess one can only hope the next build fixes this -and doesn't break anything else.
Grr! Grr! Wrah!
-
Yeah, that one is a kicker. It happens not very often but when it does, I just close the file without saving and hope for the best. Sometimes VR will remove all of your reflection layers if it removes one. Ive had that happen.

So ... you're batlling a bug with another bug?
Jokes aside, have any of you reverted to an earlier version? Which one would you recommend?
