      Hi

I need to place a lot of the same component of different vertical faces (gribs on a large clibing wall). Right now I select the component and press CRTL to copy. But the faces are not in the same angle as the axis and this gives me some problems.

Does anyone know a plugin that make this easy ? Like, Tool>place component by point>Select componen via dropdown menu>click on face.

      Thanks Jorgensen

You don't need a plugin for this. Give the grip gluing characteristics and choose any for the gluing surface. And if you do change the axes so the origin is at the center, you can layout the placement of the grips precisely by laying out crossing guidelines.

Perhaps the easiest way at this point to make your grip component have the proper gluing plane is to place one on a face. Then explode it. While it is selected, make it a component again and tick the box for Gluing and choose "Any" from the drop down.

The component already glues to any, but the ¤%#¤&#& default axis align in SU is a pain in the ...

I'll try to align the axes to the face

Try changing the grip-component's definition behavior [properties] [see browser>edit] to 'glue to vertical faces' only [it should also have been made glued to a vertical face to ensure its axes were correctly oriented - they can be adjusted but you could simply explode one and redefine the thing?]...

Why can't you just place the component after it's picked from the model pane of the component-browser - click icon, place, move if needed, otherwise just click icon again... - it's fewer clicks that Move+Ctrl to copy one in the model 😒 ...

There are also scripts to swap say cpoints as a component so you could use a cpoint making tool to add cpoints then swap them all for your 'grip'...

              Hi TIG

It seems to that aligning the axis and use CRTL+move is working ok.

It sounds to me as if when you made it, the component was not oriented so the back face was aligned with the global axes. Orient it that way, explode and remake the component and you should be good. As TIG says, you can move the axes to suit but it's probably faster to just explode and remake it.

Thanks for your input. Align axis, CRTL + move did it 😄
