      Hi,
      Can a downloaded component e.g. A lounge suite be separated - leaving say only the chair, thus deleting the settee from the component
      Do components made up for a given model stay in that model's component "library" ? Can I use sch components in other models unrelated to the original model? - Mine seem to disappear and require a download of the same model everytime it is required for a new model. I want to retain components such as say windows - I want to make up a set of windows which are to be used in other models also - How can I get them to remain in sketch up model pulldown menu for use in any future models

      Once a model is glued does it "stick" to the floor even if the model turned - for me - at this time it all looks nice when set up in the 35degree angle, but the moment I want a top view looking into various rooms etc - some of my furniture flies off.
      I have read all I can find on components - but not the answers to the above questions - I expect that my limited sketchup knowledge pulls me off track.

        You can separate out the chair from the rest of the model if you want. You need only open the downloaded component and either copy (Ctrl+C) the part you want or select what you don't and delete it. Purge the In Model component library to get rid of the unneeded stuff and reduce your file size.

        Unless you save components in your model to another library--could be a local one--they will only be available in the model. If you want to save a component for later use, either right click on it and choose Save as... or open the secondary component browser pane. Set one pane to In Model and the other to the desired location. Then click and drag the thumbnail from In Model to the other. This could help.

          Is the "fly-off" furniture due to its internal axis setting? Or is it the scale of the furniture placed visually in one locked view, but when viewed from another angle, was not really where you thought? Such as the illusory Ames room mentioned in another nearby topic?

            As to the furniture flying off, I imagine it is like the car example you posted last week. The car looked like it was placed correctly from one angle but you hadn't actually placed the car on the driveway. It was floating in space. You need to get to grips with placing components properly. I would suggest that you spend some time working on learning to use the Move tool and Inferencing. Getting those skills nailed down will go a long way in helping you make your models look like you want them.

                Gluepot? What are you talking about?

                When you bring in a component downloaded from the warehouse or from a local collection, you need to click to set it where you need it. The component's axes and origin locate the insertion point and determine the orientation of the component when it is inserted into the model. If the component doesn't get inserted correctly to begin with, you'll need to move it so it is placed correctly. This will likely involve orbiting a bit so you can look at it from different points of view.

                As you've already discovered, components downloaded from the warehouse may not be all that good. Scale is one problem but you can also get models that have poor placement of their axes which makes it difficult to insert them into a model. You may need to do some repair before the components are usable.

                  I often use the VCB for moving my models vs the move tool. Say you have a model and you want to move to the origin pick the desire point with the move tool to start and the type [0,0,0] and that will move to there. If you want to keep the same y dim then type [x,,z]. Check manual I find this method very helpful
