Are there any exterior night lighting examples made with LightUP? I'm particularly interested in doing night lighting animations and wasn't sure if LightUp is capable of processing a dusk type scene with exterior lighting. If so, I would purchase the program for that alone, as currently no other "realtime" animating solutions can do this.

How is it supposed to look btw? "Falling Water"? Anything animated? I don't see anything water-ish except for a light blue surface.

At the risk of stating the obvious... "Falling Water" is the name of the house.

LightUp supports IES lights, simple point lights, sunlight (doh) all of which are fully filtered by any transparency materials (think stain glass windows etc)
As to dusk, that would be down to choosing a suitable Panorama / Skybox and using it for Image-based lighting (IBL) + your IES lights.

And you can then export for LightUp Player and/or a webpage for others to navigate.

You can embed a weblink in the watermark. So it will open up another webpage (with potentially a different model etc).

I know - what I meant is that clickable objects inside the player (and of course, dynamic components would be some extra cream on top so we couold open/close doors for instance)
              😄

Dynamic Components have been supported in LightUp since the beginning: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u97RAAxScaA)
[BTW Ignore the framerate on the video - LightUp runs at 30Hz - the video capture got borked somehow]

Its a completely arbitrary choice that I left that code out of the Player - but something I could certainly add in if there is interest.

                hi Adam,

works on Safari 5.0.6 on 10.5.8 and in a WebDialog inside SU (which is nice;)

the F1 key for scenes dosen't work? is that deliberate, using R to restart animation dose the same thing [I guess].

it would be handy to have the nav guide on the page if it can't be toggeled

W,A,S,D work for nav, L works for lighting and P for post

I did discovered you can crash Safari and or System if you open the standalone player [to check the keys] at the same time as the WebPlayer.

there's also a bit of flotsam in the demo...

Well LightUp Player is a standalone Application with a little menu etc.
LightUp WebPlayer is a browser plugin with the expectation you'll add some HTML / text around it as part of your webpage. Seemed like re-inventing the wheel to add text rendering..

re: Flotsam. Nice catch. I'll push out a fix today.

                  Now fixed (only effected Mac).

                  1. Delete /Library/Internet-Plugins/LightUp WebPlayer.plugin
                  2. Visit http://light-up.co.uk/resources/webplayer/playertest.html to get later version (v2.4.6)

my comment was just for your web page, if someone has never used the standalone they wouldn't know how to navigate Falling Water, or the others...

while on the topic of Your html text... the plugin doesn't 'self' instal, but the screen text implies simply restarting Safari will make it work... it's easy enough to figure out , but a lot of people wouldn't bother and assume it's crap.

Well, finally, after some experimentation with LUp, I started to apply things and play around with a bigger project of mine.

I appreciate, Adam, that you come here all the time to support all the lazy but I know you have your own forum, too.

Should I ask here or should I go there (I've been a member and occasional lurker there for quite long actually)?

My first question would be: is it possible to add unicode support to the Player? Unless I only use English characters, my scene names get messed up.

                      Gai...

I'll amend the text for the Safari "Download plugin". If you have the crash.log, can you email it to lightup. Thanks.

Fonts are one of those 'interesting' technologies that you hardly give a second thought to, however, handling Unicode in general is a really huge amount of work. So much so that video games teams will have an engineer who may be fulltime solely supporting fonts.
The more you look into it, the more complex you find it is. I'll certainly have a think about how I could leverage Windows / OSX font support rather than having to build my own.

                            Thanks.

The time it takes to Light your model depends how complex it is. A simple model will take a few seconds. A complex model may take 20 minutes.
LightUp uses both CPU and GPU to generate the results.

Is there some limitations with the size of the model? For example, I would like to bake a golf course model (2000m x 2000m) and import the model into Unity. The file size is about 5-6MB.

No intrinsic limits. However, you can significantly accelerate your workflow by structuring your model, using Layers, "Zoning" your (golf) landscape into top-level Groups to make it easier to edit and process, using a consistent level-of-detail both in terms of geometry detail and texture detail (no 6000x6000 textures for the basket in the corner). etc.
