Natural looking welding seams
-
Hi all,
Do any of you know where to find natural looking aluminium welding seams to use in highly detailed models where it is important to see and know about the welding seams.
The weld it self should be seem with a=xx measurements for weld and be push/pulled into place as both concave and convex.I have looked but does not find any such "tools"?
Best regards

Fredo's RoundCorner tool set should do what you want...
There was some discussion about forming weld fillets on the forum - try doing a search...
Tip... very small faces [<~1mm] will fail to form in SUp so you should scale up what you are doing, say x10, then fillet the welds and then scale back down x0.1 - these very small faces can exist, but can't be made... -

I am a welder and have also played with making very realistic tig welds using the tutorial rsw shows in the above thread. I was successful but tig welds make a ton of faces. They are basically concave puddles in a string all around the joint. I am on a different computer so I cant access my weld bead file.
I have also seen on sketchucation some where people using round corners plugin and then putting a texture on the weld bead.
Good luck
Post up some of your results.

Thanks all,
I will try to use some of the suggested things. When I find the right solution I will post a sample here.

How about a low poly segmented fillet smoothed & with a image of a weld applied?
