VW Beetle v3 launched. Retro or rubbish?
-
Hi Guys,
Over the past couple of years I have lost much of my interest in cars. I was expecting to see many innovative electrics coming on the market but this has not happened, disappointing
I now see that VW has launched the v3 of the Beetle. This is getting further and further away from the original Beetle concept! The original concept was a true 'People Car' with its long lasting engine and body and most important low entry price. The current offerings have a 2.5L five cylinder petrol engine, a 2.0L TDI and a 2.0L TSI turbocharged petrol engine!
While I find the 'look' of the car attractive ONLY because it reminds me of the original Beetle I think its now becoming a joke.
FIAT on the other hand have made a decent effort at producing a 'retro' car with the 500C but again its no 500cc 'run around' like the original. Although the original was a rust bucket and not very reliable engine wise.
When are these automotive giants going to wake up and start being innovative again!
Mike

Looks like a caricature of a Porsche.
Jeremey Clarkson would not be caught dead in it.
-
If I had the choice of this or a Nissan Juke I'd still choose walking
-
It does indeed look like a porsche. The teenies answer to the 1970's Ford Capri perhaps?
I'd drive/own one!
And stuff jezza!

You bunch of bloody snobs! No wonder Ireland is going down the pan!!!

Guys,
Rich and I have had an ongoing argument about the new Nissan Juke. I like most things about it and Rich can't stand the sight of it.
I have been following the Juke since concept for a few years. I think it ticks most boxes for Irish driving conditions, compact, high vision line, quick in turbo version, advanced in 4x4 version and 'cute'! Nissan were brave in their design and went out on a limb.Interestingly the Juke was aimed at the young executive types BUT it has transpired, in Japan at least, that its the over 50s / 'empty nesters' that have taken to the Juke in droves ..... maybe that explains my attraction to the car. Now if only they would offer a version with the Nissan Leaf's electric engine I would jump at one!
HOWEVER (Rich)! The ten contenders for the 'Irish Car of the Year 2011' were,
BMW 5 Series
Kia Venga
Nissan Juke
Nissan 370Z
Opel Astra
Peugeot 5008
Peugeot RCZ
Renault Fluence
Saab 9-5
Skoda Yeti
and the winner was !

Irish Car of the Year???
Isn't that a little like . . .being the MVP in a Bolivian Hockey League?

Juke
Looks like a Kia got stung by a bunch of bees. -
........ bring it on! I'll stick to my guns and go as far to say the Juke will be a classic in time!

Definition of JUKE
transitive verb
: to fake out of position (as in football)probably alteration of English dialect jouk to cheat, deceive
Juke Stain
The blue jean colored marks found on the white walls after a ghetto ass apartment party. It occurs from mens blue jean covered ass being smashed against a wall by an overly aggressive woman jukeing too hard.
"I need to figure out a way to get these Juke Stain's off of the walls or else I wont get my deposit back."
It's already a classic......a classic mistake
