Snagit won't Snagit
-
I am previewing Snagit and have run into a problem and was hoping someone here had the same with a fix.
When I do a video capture with the cursor included I cannot orbit in SketchUp. However this only happens on my home machine. On my work machine I can orbit just fine with the cursor included.
I did this tutorial at home. Notice I had to note what tool I was using because I could not get the "cursor included" to work. However I was able to do this tutorial with the cursor included on my work machine during lunch the other week with no problems.
I have the same OS at work as I do at home, Windows 7. Both have Service Pack 1 installed. I have the exact same mouse on both machines. I am using SketchUp 8 on both.
I am stumped. I really hoped this would have worked for me.
What concerns me the most is I have contacted Snagit twice with no response. Not looking too good for their customer service or them getting my money.

For live screen capture you should check out Camtasia Studio rather than Snagit - it has many more features.
However - I've just run my own tests and managed to get cursor capture working every time when recording Sketchup orbit.
I suspect that the problem is likely to be wrapped up in the profile that you are using during capture. It took me more than a while of playing with profiles to get Snagit capturing just what I wanted.
When you are ready to capture your video, take a look at the Snagit Capture>Input menu. The Include Cursor option is on both the top level menu and in the sub-menu - do you have it checked in both?
-
Thanks for the reply John.
I have not played with the profiles yet, I just left it on "All in One". I also checked to make sure both places had the cursor checked. I will make sure I have the same settings at home tonight.
The reason I am looking at Snagit is because I don't need many features, just a basic video screen capture. Therefore a $50 price tag is more desirable than $300. However with the lack of customer support I might look at another company all together. Customer service is big in my book. I even joined the Techsmith form and posted a question but have not gotten any response either, but it has only been 24 hours. We'll see.

Hey Eric. I recently used BSR Screen Recorder to capture a Sketchy Physics animation. I only needed the animation, not mouse movements or anything like that, but I believe it has those features. It was free and relatively easy to use so it fit what I needed perfectly. You can check it out here if you're interested: http://www.thesilver.net/

Thanks Wyatt, I will check it out.

I had problems with All-In-One myself and don't use it. I use custom settings now and it would be worth experimenting with these.
Try setting the capture mode to Window and make sure that you select the Sketchup window before beginning the capture. The whole process of selecting the capture region in the latest version of Snagit is a pain and I did find that it would work OK for the first capture, then would only work again if I closed Snagit and re-started it.

Thanks John. I will give it a go tonight.

I haven't been having any problems with SnagIt. I just upgraded from 8 to 10 and everything seems to be working fine for me. Of course Eric, you already knew that.
-
Yep, thanks Dave for the help earlier.
Wyatt, I tried installing BSR here at work and it failed. Must be a network thing. I will try at home.
I also found HyperCam2 which is free and seems to work well. However I like the Snagit interface better.

Ok, I am starting to develop a complex. I have tried every configuration in the profiles with no success.
I tried doing a video capture of me browsing the forums just for a check and the scroll wheel won't scroll. I checked the mouse driver and it is up to date.
Again, I am stumped and I am sure you guys are tired of hearing me whine and bitch about software problems. -
have you tired installing that Wizmouse program to see if that fixes it?
-
I haven't no. I just don't see why it is not working here when it works just fine on my work machine. Sigh.
Uninstall and reinstall did not work either.
Edit: I can't even type into a google search. The video with cursor enabled is not allowing any other function to be recorded.
-
Here's a quick example I did with SnagIt 10 i can switch to the Orbit tool and it shows and I can type in the search line for components. Eric, have you had any word at all from TechSmith's Customer Service?
-
Mine works just like that at work, just not here.
I have not heard a peep from TechSmith, personally or on the Forum.
-
Strange.
I wonder why they haven't contacted you. Did you try tech support or customer support? (if they are different)
-
I don't remember actually. It was two weeks ago, then a couple days after that. Then I went on vacation... wiped my memory clean
I did notice that when I use Photoshop on this new computer there is an visual issue when I am sliding layers around. Previously and on my work machine they move fast, no lag, but on this new machine it seems to labor just to move the layers up or down by dragging them. This is the only visual anomaly I have noticed since I got this machine. I am starting to think the two issues are related. My drivers are up to date so I don't really know what to check for.

Out of curiosity, what graphics card?
-
NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 1GB 16X PCI Expres
-
I know what to get you for Christmas... A man of your talents should have a better card.
-
Hmmm, Pete suggested this one.
