my students who use SU8 free are having trouble importing DWGs. I suggested them to install 7.1 free and the plugin Google posted for dwg imports, to import the dwgs this way and later import the file into SU8.

      two questions:

      1. any different suggestions?
      2. where can they download 7.1 free from?

      thanks.

They can download 7.1 Pro from the Google site and then let it expire when it downgrades to the free version.

Alternatively, Honoluludesktop has a plugin that imports dwg and afaik it is compatible with SU 8.

thanks, csaba. i've passed the info on.

but about the second tip, is not the plugin for dxf import only? does it work if the file to be imported is a dwg? or would it have to be converted before?

That plugin is for DXF import, only so you would need to make a DXF from the DWG in AutoCAD or another app first... 😕

for example w/ free Teigha File Converter (ex EveryDWG), at least under Windows.
