I have a complex logo that has to be painted onto an organic shape (the side of a vehicle). I'm not sure how, but I think I did this once by push-pulling the logo and then intersecting with the shape. Is that the best way?

And also, what's the trick to turning a complex b&w jpg into a form that I can extrude?

        Yes,that is the best way,intersecting.
There is no such plugin that makes contours of logos unless they have transparent background and saved as png.
If the logo is not too complicate u can trace over with the pencil or arc tools.

          Thanks Elisei!

I can convert the graphic to a png with transparent background. What is the plugin for that?

Can you not convert jpg to png in Photoshop? Gimp?
And thomthom did some work I believe on converting images to displacement maps?

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

It is called image trimmer and is part of this set of tools which u can find here

              http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=293677#p293677 .

Remember the png must be very accurate otherwise will make creepy edges.

If u want you can let me see what is it about and maybe to give some proper advice about how to apply the logo on the car.

              Cheers!

Also read up on ImageTrimmer - it might do what you want semi-automatically.....
