    Is there a script that I can use to make all same faces into components?

    Lets say I have 1000 ungrouped faces with the same image on it (grass) , I'd like to make them all instances of the same component. The problem is it was created like this but a few years ago it was exploded in order to render (when vray had issues with alpha maps or was it nested components?), now I need to make them all components again.

    I thought I remembered a similar script once, but have no idea what it was called so searching is difficult.

      Maybe? But they need to be groups first πŸ˜’

        That's the problem, they are not grouped. So anyone able to whip up a quick script that can convert faces with the same texture applied to them into groups or components? πŸ˜‰

            Okay, I was able to create groups from faces, but when I tried to great components from groups I ended up with 2756 unique components...I actually only wanted one component and 2756 instances of it.

            Any ideas?

              Thomthom's Component Dropper woulder require you to select 2755 components then run Component Dropper to swap the 2755 with the 1

                    Tried selecting all the groups but the #1 and right-click that #1 in the Component manager to Replace Selected. πŸ˜„

                      I tried that initially but it then changes the orientaion of all the components to that of the one I selected.

                        Oh darn it, they do not have their axes on the same relative spot. 😞
                        Maybef the plugin that made the groups could be tweaked.

                          How about Component Comparison`?

                            component comparison and matt666's component/groups plugin should do the trick without altering component axes. see my previous post on converting xfrog leaves:

                            http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=30143&hilit=component+comparison&start=15

                            @unknownuser said:

                            the [xfrog] leaves are identical geometry - just a simple rectangle. at least with the models i have. i converted the leaves of a young birch to identical components with matt666's component/groups plugin:

                            http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=17590

                            it is quite slow, the plugin and the process - took me several hours: select 200-300 leaves at a time, select faces only with thomthom's selection tools, use matt666's plug to convert entities to components, and then run component comp to make them all the same. don't explode the leaf groups until you've converted them all to components, then it takes only seconds.
