How about we have a thread that only mods can add to and post on but everyone could view. We could put up the most impressive models found around here along with a link to each corresponding thread. We could have a separate discussion thread open to everyone so they can nominate people's works etc. It would just be nice to have a real "Gallery" of the greatest SketchUp works. πŸ˜„

It's kind of elaborate I guess but I don't think it would be too hard to implement, right?

That has been covered before but Mods are a notoriously lazy bunch. I wouldn't bother asking them.

We have recently grown the Gallery forum to add a WIP forum to accomodate the feedback we got on the Gallery becoming cluttered. Adding a Mod only locked topic kind of takes away the community spirit of the place. By having members recommending members it remains a true representation of what SCF thinks of the submissions on show.

Whilst it does seem to have simmered down lately it is a great place to visit to get inspiration/motivation and mostly depression.

But you never know you may get your wish someday......

These images are produced mostly in sketchup. He used to have a great wealth of info regarding this project on his blog, including tuts, workflows, etc. But as time went on it has moved to the back burner and the amount of info has decreased, but I still find it very inspirational.

He also used to have some videos on youtube showing his sketchup workflow. I forget what they were called but they're a good watch.

I just took a quick romp through this post, and all I can say is they are all FAKES. Photographs, pure and simple.

Justin's work is super slick for sure. I had the pleasure of meeting him in Boulder at the last Basecamp, he is a class act all the way.

I am not critiquing the quality of the SU art in any way, but, the mechanical concept of the Heavy Lifter is a somewhat backwards. The large dual wheels under the engine/counterweight should be as close to the lift forks as possible, as that is where the load will be. The 2 smaller tires in front are seemingly way too small for the load the lifter seems designed for. Plus the steering mechanism cannot take such a load, which is one of the main reasons almost all lift trucks have the steerables in the back. The load end is usually a solid axle.
Very nicely done model and render though. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

I read a post at the Unity3d's forum where a guy wrote: "I'm tired of using Google sketchup pro 8 cause that can't make anything good."
I wrote an answer and posted a few great model images I found here, but I started thinking...
What if we posted the most impressive SketchUp models we've seen. All in this thread. Could be our own or others.
(With the modelling in focus, not rendering.)

A collection of the best of the best that would impress most on people that are not aware of SketchUps capabilities.

I'll start off with the images I posted in my reply to him:

                                  http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1316/5103560498_14a7943445_b.jpg

                                  Silver shadows HMS Snowberry

                                  http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z316/free_shadow/alldone.jpg

Silver shadows The river runs through it.

That second picture is particularly impressive. Whoever made that is incredible talented, I wish my sketches came out like that.

Numbthumb's "Acht-achter" cannon definitely deserves to be mentioned here. 😍

                                    Acht-achter cannon clay render.

                                    Acht-achter cannon clay render 2.

                                    Acht-achter render.
