Installing Plugins?
-
Hello, I just found this site by doing a search for a lofting tool for sketchup. I've downloaded the plugin but, I don't have the slightest clue how to install it or to get it to show up when I launch the program. I'm on v6.

Don't know which loft tool you've downloaded.
If the download is a zip, extract the file to the Sketchup Plugins subfolder. If the download is a .rb or .rbs file, either copy or move it to that folder. Restart Sketchup. If the tool has buttons or context menu commands to deploy, you may need to activate these. Click Window,
select Preferences, select Extensions, scroll in the list to see if the tool is mentioned, and click the check box.I could recommend that you consider updating your Sketchup version at least to 7, as over time, many of the tools you may seek have been upgraded, even to Version 8, and may no longer be backwards compatible.
Do some searching here. In the past week, people have been asking where to get V7, and have been answered."mitcorb don't have all the answers." Just trying to help.

It was the simple loft tool by Chris Fullmer. Thank you for the quick reply. I knew it had to be something simple like that lol...

It is worth upping your version...
There are several other 'lofting' tools available - the most recent is Fredo's CurviLoft beta;then there's my Extrusion Tools zipped-set, that includes several tools including so 'lofting' ones... Do a search by author... -

Let's say that I have a spline and I want to loft a "tube" shape around the spline. Do any of them work that way for sketch? I know that I can do it in max but, I despise doing any modeling in max. I prefer to do all of it in sketch and then import the models into max and do my texturing work from there.

Pipe Along Path pipe with wall thickness specify radius and wall thickness
Tube Along Path face skin only specify radiusDidier Bur's Lines to Tubes. specify radius and number of segments of the circular cross section
See in Plugins Index. Red Button at top of Board Index page. Search by Author or name of tool.

I really just need to remove that lofting tool. It was a great first try at lofting, and It still makes nice results, but there are so many better options out there...

I like it. But then again, I am lazy, and have never tried any of the other plugins. Still waiting for you to update the equal segments feature:-) Then, after I get a copy, you can remove it.

What I really like about your tool is the option to determine the amount of segments between each of the splines. I'm using sketchup to build models for a racing sim and the poly count is extremely important. Your tool allows me to have control over that very easily.
