I'm guessing you're using the older version 1.05.30 ? (Please post your VfSU version, and OS info when asking questions - makes questions easier to answer.)

That version had a bug where material changes would not save unless you opened the Options window before you saved the model.

Apologies. Yes, that is the version im using. My OS is Windows XP 64bit.

I will try the opening options method, hopefully this will work. I'll let you know.

      Thanks

Right, it seems to wkr when I start a fresh model but with my current one no lukc - yet. Do I simply open the options tab? open & close a few times? what if its open already? close then open?

Open and close - once. That was all I had to do. It was routine for me to do that before I saved the model.

It just wont do it. Jeez this is really starting to annoy me. Is there a patch? or another "trick" I can use. As I said above, it worked for a fresh model but not for my current one which has been around for the past 2 weeks and was working jsut fine up until now.

I've not experienced or heard of that failing.

1.05.30 is and old version. 1.48.89 is the latest public version.
              1.05.30 won't get any updates.

                  Just to make sure:

                  • You edit a material
                  • Open/close Option Window
                  • Save SU model

                  ?

                      hi there chips,
im using the same version as you used, and yes i've been thru that issue before, but there is a way just like thom already told you to keep the setting saved.

PS: im still stick with this version, coz, i think this version is still the simplest and stabil of the VFSU, just leak of IES feature, that is very significant..

                      goodluck

                      still so much to learn..

Ambient occlusion, more VFB channels, newer V-Ray core (faster), render Image entities, uses the alpha channels of PNG images, doesn't crawl to a halt when you apply material to groups/components.
(The main reason why you want to stick with the older, IMO, is if you need to use the DR. It's still flakey - they are waiting for a patch from ChaosGroup.)

but im still love this 1.05.03 workaround, with some note i think (don't put to deep on the group or component) thanks thom.

                          regards,

This new version wasn't supposed to have all these new features, it was suppose to only be a rewrite of the old so it'd work on OSX as well. But the developers found they could add some things in a matter of minutes - so... 😒 😄

Thanks Vidy. I had to download the new version last night just to see if I could actually do anything to my work. Installed it this morning and so far so good, and all my materials were still all there with the settings. V 1.05 really screwed up over the past few days, dam bugs. What makes this even more harder for me is that im currently trying to learn the software so when things like this happen, it really slows learning down but its all good now so onwards!

                              Thanks guys!
